I am currently in Thailand on a 60 day TR And have extended for 30 days due to expire on Nov 20. I am hoping to get the covid extension after this TR 30 day extension.
I have been to the local immigration (Phayao) and they have informed me that I require a letter from my embassy saying I can not return or a letter stating the embassy does not provide these letters in order to process the application.
Does anyone know if or have experience where the British embassy provides either of these letters?
I have read in this group that certain immigration offices (Bangkok) do not require this type of letter with the covid extension. Can anyone confirm which immigration in Bangkok this is?
I am aware this would mean having to relocate to Bangkok and complete a new TM30 which would be possible due to family ties in the city.
Appreciate any help here, thanks guys.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a 30-day extension of a 60-day TR visa, expiring on November 20. They seek a COVID extension but must present a letter from their embassy confirming they cannot return or stating their inability to issue such a letter. They inquire about the British embassy's procedures and whether different immigration offices, particularly in Bangkok, have varying requirements for the COVID extension process.
Ask about and find an office that does not require a letter. As you said there are some. Bit of a hassle but get cheap hotel in that place a few days and should sort out the TM30 for you. Pretty sure I never had TM30 in Jomtien a few years ago. Just gave them business card of where I was staying.
