Hey,

I am in Thailand on 30 day visa exempt, I already got the stamp for the next 30 days from the immigration office. I went to the immigration office today to get the covid extension but they want the letter from embassy. My embassy won't give it to me and said I can fill out this document " แบบรับรองตนเพื่อขออนุญาตให้อยู่ในราชอาณาจักรเป็นการชั่วคราว ในช่วงโควิด-19 Affidavit for granting permission to temporarily stay in the kingdom during Covid-19"

The problem is I can only get it in Bangkok and I checked for appointments and the first free will be on 1.june.. I will try to call them tomorrow and get an earlier appointment.

So my question is: in case it won't work, can I go to another IO where I won't need the letter from embassy? Like in chiang Mai. I am located in uttaradit

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption and seeks a COVID extension. They faced challenges obtaining a required letter from their embassy and are exploring the possibility of applying at a different immigration office, specifically in Chiang Mai, instead of Bangkok. Comments suggest that different immigration offices have varying requirements and that the office in Chiang Mai may allow for a simplification of the process without the embassy letter.

I live in Chiang Mai. I got a covid extension about 2 months ago at the Chiang Mai immigration. They don´t need that letter from the embassy. They will hand out a piece of paper that you just sign. That paper states that your embassy will not give the letter. This is normal procedure here at Chiang Mai. Happened to me and a handfull of my friends. Immigration offices have different policies, some are more relaxed like the Chiang Mai imm. And by the way there are 2 different immigration offices here in Chiang Mai. If you plan to come over, use the main imm office next to the air port.

I got no idea what those officers in Uttaradit are telling you about that form because Bangkok isn't using it and AFAIK no office is.

You sure they won't take an email from your embassy stating they don't issue the letter and let you get a covid extension at your immigration office there?

Thanks alot! I think the Idea with going to Chiang Mai and check into a Hotel will solve this issue. I don't know why they want it so bad :( I showed them the Email from my Embassy and that they told me to fill out the other document.

but that other document is just one you fill out on your own. there's no place for the embassy to stamp or sign it. You sure you didn't have a lost in translation with them and they will give you the covid extension if you fill it out?

My friend was with me and he translated for me and clearly said they want a stamp. I also called the embassy in Chiang Mai afterwards and when I asked about this document they instantly told me that I will need a stamp but I can only get in in Bkk.

You're here as a tourist on a 30 day visa exempt entry and a 30 day extension. GO check into a hotel in Chiang Mai and go to the main immigration office by the airport there and apply for the 60 day covid extension. That seems to be the easier choice especially seeing as it's over 6 hours to bangkok and just 3 and change to Chiang Mai

If you are not in Bangkok why are you trying to get the COVID extension in Bangkok? Is it that your local immigration office said NO ?

I need the stamp from the German embassy for this document แบบรับรองตนเพื่อขออนุญาตให้อยู่ในราชอาณาจักรเป็นการชั่วคราว ในช่วงโควิด-19 Affidavit for granting permission to temporarily stay in the kingdom during Covid-19

@Daniel ******
but if you do not live in Bangkok...get the COVID extension where you live.

As there likely will be a second trip back to the immigration office in 30 days to close out the Under Consideration stamp you will get when you first apply for the COVID extension.

You said OR. Isn’t that affidavit the form they give out at Chiangmai immigration for COVID-19 extensions? Don’t you just have to fill it out yourself and hand it in with the other documents?

My embassy sent this Document with an email when I asked about the letter for the Covid Extension. The IO where I was today want a stamp from my Embassy which I can only get in BKK

You apply at the Immigration Office where your address is registered.

You do not have to travel to Bangkok first. If your application gets denied, you will get a stamp application not approved and 7 days to leave the country.

Sorry to tell you, but travelling around Thailand to find one officer in over 70 offices who is willing to give you 60 days stay based on being unable to travel is a lot of travel.

ok thank you :) the traveling to Bkk is for the stamp for this document แบบรับรองตนเพื่อขออนุญาตให้อยู่ในราชอาณาจักรเป็นการชั่วคราว ในช่วงโควิด-19 Affidavit for granting permission to temporarily stay in the kingdom during Covid-19. I was on a call with the embassy in Chiang Mai but they told me only the one in Bkk can give the stamp. I was asking about going to another IO because I have read that in Chiang Mai they don't ask for the Letter from Embassy, as this is my problem right now. My Embassy has the next free appointment for 1.june
