I stay with a German passport and TR visa in Thailand since Dec 5, 2020. Incuding a 30 day extention my visa expires on March 4. End of this month I want to apply for Covid 60 day Visa extension. Currently I stay in Pattaya and the immigration told me that I will need an embassy letter. I have 2 questions about this:

1. has anyone experience how to get this letter from German embassy?

1. i heard that some immigration offices don’t ask for this letter (chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui !?)?

I would be very thankful if you can share your experience.

It doesn't hurt to send Embassy an email. My Embassy stated on their site that such letter is not issued, and they did reply to my email stating the same. I printed out the email and got my extension.

right, that was my point, contact them and at least ask. Most will email back saying they don't issue it anymore and that's what you take with you when you go apply

I just want to stay in Thailand due to the situation in Europe. When I applied for a visa the only easy solution was a TR visa . At that time a STV visa was not possible.

My mid to long term plan is to be flexible and spend a lot of time in Thayland. I love Thailand (people including the foreigners, food, wheather, landscapes, peaceful Buddhism, ...). I want to stay about 6 month a year in Thailand and maybe immigrate in some years. As I read about many different possibilities and requirements for long term stays, I finally started to apply for an elite visa. But this needs about 2 month to get it.

my current plan is to stay as long in Thailand as the situation in Europe strongly improve. I want to stay until summer, maybe longer.

thanks for your answer. I did not find any hint on the Homepage of the German Embassy in Bangkok. Can you please explain how I can find this information, so I can use it to proof that they don’t give this letter. Thanks

What is the reason to stay longer.....

Phil Jones. Unfortunately "wanting to" is not a reason under the covid-19 extension. I think Reiner is trying to establish his longer term plans to advise a better strategy?

'wanting it', so far is all you need. They do not ask why and no need to prove that you can't fly. And right now it is extended until 30 May. No doubt there will be more. Someone using that route is likely good until land borders are open. Should be good for at least duration of 2021

the last day to apply for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is March 30, not May 30

Todd McGowan. Probably will be, but this guy might have other avenues to get a longer visa and save himself a few thousand baht, and having to traipse out to immigration twice every two months. I only visit immigration once a year and that shits me.

agreed. Anything to minimize the hassle! But for my gf, the process has gone from a big hassle to once every 60 day visit, and very small lineups on Samui. If immigration office is close to you, no problem, if it's a big trip - totally worth considering other avenues.

If your consulate issues the letter, GET the letter, if they don't issue it print out the email or the page from their website stating they don't issue it
