Hello all

- Arrived March 2020 on tourist visa

- Transferred to Education visa September 2020

-Transferred to Covid Extension Visa September 2021

- Yesterday went to get my covid extension in phuket immigration and was told in January rulings changed for individuals on specific types of visa including education, non b, o etc

- Was stamped for just 7 days with the option of contacting my embassy for a potential 30day extension or leaving the country. Covid extension is no longer available to someone who had an education visa previously

My question:

Has anyone contacted their embassy (British specifically) with regards to extending their 7 day visa and any successes even if it wasn’t a British embassy?

I’m happy to leave and come back but it would be more convenient to stay if it’s an option. Want to know now as I need to book flights asap if Im going to leave the country

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has experienced a series of visa transfers in Thailand, starting from a tourist visa to an education visa, and subsequently a COVID extension. After a recent interaction with Phuket immigration, they learned that the COVID extension program no longer applies to their situation. Now granted only a 7-day visa, the user is inquiring about the possibility of extending their stay through the British embassy or other avenues. Responses highlight the difficulties of obtaining a visa extension and emphasize the need to exit Thailand for a more stable visa option.

It's not so much leaving that's gonna be hard, it's the turning around and comin' back in where you're likely to find a huge problem with passport control comin' back

ESPECIALLY if all you're doing is bouncing out and back in. I'd say go to a nearby open country, GET a single entry tourist visa, spend a couple days (at the least) THEN come back

Also make sure when you do come back you have the 3 proofs (which you can be asked for stamping in)

- proof of funds 20K baht or the equivalent in CASH

- proof of onward travel within the time you're stamped in for

- proof of lodging <- as in where you're going to stay once you get out of the test&go hotel

Also IF you can, fly into Phuket or Chiang Mai, as there are no denial of entry reports from there,

don't you need to go back to a country of residence to apply for single/multiple entry tourist visa?

, You can go to any Thai consulate in South East Asian countries that will sell you a visa as long as you're not on the list of prohibited countries for that consulate.

But you may need to go back to your home country or country where you have legal residency for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. No country in this area sells METV to foreigners.

Hey Todd, just a small detail I missed on this occasion unfortunately and I knew I’d have to leave at some point so am (somewhat) prepared for this. Im kind of happy to have a reason to leave, travel for a month or two and come back.

Thank you very much for your messages this is invaluable information and I really appreciate your assistance

You’re a credit to the expat and tourist community!

Have an awesome weekend.

Be that as it may.

Nope, the UK embassy does not issue a letter and hasn't for a long while, so that avenue is not open to you

AND

who ever told you that you could get a 30 day extension with a letter FROM a 7 day "application for extension not approved" get out of thailand in a week stamp was wrong.

That is the "stamp of death" and you leave in a week

it was immigration giving me a couple of half baked options perhaps they meant I needed to contact the embassy before getting the 7 day stamp. But it sounds like I only have one fate

Not to be too disparaging but do you live under a rock? 😮

When the last covid extension program was expiring (Jan 25th) they made an annoucement that they would continue the covid extension program from the 26th of Jan to the 25th of March BUT that anyone who held a non-immgrant type visa/extension of any kind could NOT get another covid extension. So hyou should have known this back at the end of Jan 🙁
