Should I pursue a COVID-19 visa extension or a tourist extension in Thailand?

I went to the Thai Immigration office earlier here in Bangkok to apply for another extension based on tourism. I am currently on my first 30-day extension based on tourism that is set to expire this Friday. When I submitted the form for 30 extension based on tourism, the immigration officer gave me another set of forms to fill-out which is the forms for Unable to Travel due to COVID-19 instead. Not sure why. After filling out the forms, they asked me to contact my Embassy and ask for the Confirmation Letter and ask me to go back once I have the letter.

Should I proceed with the extension request for Unable to Travel due to COVID-19 or should I just ask and insist that I would just like a 30-day extension based on tourism?

The Unable to Travel due to COVID-19 extension is good but I’m afraid that if my Embassy doesn’t respond as soon as possible or process the letter, I won’t have have enough time to process my visa extension because it will expire this Friday already.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author is seeking advice on whether to proceed with a visa extension under the 'Unable to Travel due to COVID-19' category, which requires a confirmation letter from their embassy, or to insist on a straightforward 30-day extension based on tourism. They are concerned about the time required to obtain the embassy letter, as their current extension is set to expire soon.

Have you already got the "under consideration stamp" already or you only got the forms? If not yet, you need to get all the required papers you were told and go back to the immigration office within this week.

Understood. But what if my unable to travel due to COVID was denied and I have to leave the country, and then, I tested positive and have to isolate/quarantine and my visa has already expired, will I be penalized for overstaying or will my visa be automatically extended for

days?
