TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of obtaining a COVID extension in Thailand without an embassy letter. Users shared various experiences, noting that while some have successfully extended their visas without needing the embassy letter, others—especially those applying in Pattaya—have faced difficulties requiring it. Suggestions include providing a refusal email from the embassy or simply indicating that the embassy does not issue such letters. Users also mentioned that different immigration offices may have varying requirements and that hiring an agent might help in complicated situations.

he needed it because he make in with a non immigration O visa and then you need it. They said new rule. For tourists they don’t care even for an agency it would have been hard.

What immigration in Thailand are you trying to get you extension at? If it’s at Phuket or Chiang Mai, you don’t need an embassy letter.

it was pattaya but it was for my boyfriend with an non immigration b visa and with that you need it 🙂 got it sorted out anyway 😊

yea Pattaya is the hardest most awkward immigration centre in all of Thailand. They have backhander deals with the visa agents. I would suggest either have a little holiday to Phuket or use an agent, in the future.

I simply checked the box that said my embassy didn't provide covid letters and got 2 months the first time and 1 month the second

But good to hear it worked out (y)

It’s starting to sound more and more far-fetched that one needs a covid extension.

Print out the refusal email or web page that says they won’t issue one and use that.
