TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the necessity of an embassy letter when applying for a COVID-19 visa extension in Bangkok. Several community members have shared their recent experiences, stating that the letter is not typically required for the extension application. They mentioned that the extension can be processed at the temporary immigration office in IT Square Laksi, but it is advised to apply before the deadline (August 24, 2022). Experiences vary depending on the officer and circumstances, emphasizing the need for a plan B if the extension is denied.

'Embassy unable to issue the letter of confirmation' is accepted as an explanation. Did it a month ago.

I got the Covid extension 2weeks ago at the temporary immigration office (IT SQUARE Laksi)

I was told to apply before July 25.

There you have to complete like 5 or 6 forms. They didn’t ask me about embassy letter. I recommend you to go early ( arround 8 ) the office opens at 8.30 but there’s always a lot of people

If you used IT Square Laksi Plaza it most likely means you entered with NO visa and got stamped in for free for 30 days when you arrived.

The O/P has a real tourist visa they got from the thai consulate before they come here, and they would use the main office at Chaengwattana

thanks ! Didn’t thought about that when I wrote the comment …It’s true I didn’t need visa but I got stamped for 90 days when I got here.

then you must come from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru or South Korea, because those countries get 90 day free entry stamp when they arrive here and they also go to IT Square Laksi Plaza for their extensions 😛

whether they will ask for an embassy letter has to do more with IF your embassy issues it, AND how many covid extensions you've been on here.

There are literally hundreds of posts of people asking about covid extensions 😕 Search it in the search bar.

Keep in mind you "needing" to get a covid extension has very little to do with it, Covid extensions are issued at the discretion of the office/officer you're at and not a sure thing, so I'd definitely have a plan B, in case you're denied.

These are the things you are likely to need <- depending on the office you use

Remember an extension based on "embassy request" <- the letter from the embassy only gives you 30 days. The covid extension is something different and that gives you 60 days

AND

As

correctly pointed out the current covid extension program is set to run out on Aug 24th

then you go to the main immigration office in Bangkok out at the government complex (Building B) on Chaengwattana Road and you want to go to Counter J <- they do extensions for people in bangkok on real tourist visas 🙂

sorry to ask you so many questions

Are you on a REAL tourist visa that you bought before you came here?

or

Did you show up and get stamped in FREE for 30 days when you arrived?

Also did you take your 'regular' 30 day extension?

COVID extension will be terminated by August 24 2022
