hi all! we are currently in Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa. we would like to extend by 30 days which we can at our local embassy. however we have heard that if you go a week or two before your 60 days expires that they start your 30 day extension from the day you go to extend instead of adding 30 to your original 60. does anyone have experience in this? is it true or do they just add 30 days to your oringal departure date? we plan to call immigration but any personal advice gratefully received.

edit: apologies I meant immigration not embassy!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking clarification on extending their 60-day tourist visa in Thailand by 30 days, specifically whether the extension starts from the application date or the original expiration date. Comments confirm that 30-day extensions are typically added to the existing visa period and should be applied for at any time during the last 15-45 days of the current visa. They recommend avoiding last-minute applications and ensuring that all paperwork, such as the TM30, is in order to avoid fines.

, I'd say steer clear of who ever told you that nonsense because they SUCK at visa advice..

ALL 30 day extensions are ADDED to your current expiration date.

As
@El***
pointed out, different offices allow you apply for an extension at different times.

How about stating WHERE you are in thailand so people can tell you what the immigration office in your area does as far as when you can apply.

There is NO reason at all to wait until the last days of your current stamp.

The 30 days will be added for the princely sum of 1900bt.

Make sure TM30 is in order or you'll be fined an additional 800bt!!!

You need to go to the local immigration office in the area where you currently are in Thailand, not an embassy????

30days extension is supposed to be added to your current admitted date. You can apply 15 - 45 days before your admitted until date (depends on immigration office)

But it could happen because of some mistake not by rule. If you get 30days extension starting applying date and not added to current stamp, you can ask immigration office to correct it.

( Once I got strange days (not 30days either the date of application nor my admitted until stamp) to exempt entry - long time ago.)

You see it's always good idea to check your stamp when you receive not only at airpot / land border passport controls upon entering the country but also at immigration office.

1. To extend the 60 day tourist visa, you do it at the local immigration office, NOT at your embassy.

2. In most cases, you can do that extension at any time. It will ADD another 30 days to your existing entry stamp, giving you a total of 90 days.
