Hi everyone, my country is eligible for a 60-day visa exemption, with the option to extend it for an additional 30 days. Could anyone explain how the extension process works and how I can apply for it once Iโ€™m in Thailand? Also, how long before my exemption expires can I apply for the extension?

Thank you! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your 60-day visa exemption in Thailand for an additional 30 days, you need to visit the local immigration office relevant to your province. The requirements can vary by location, so it's important to check the specific requirements at the office you go to. Generally, you can apply for the extension when you have 30 days or less left on your visa, although some larger offices may allow applications with up to 45 days remaining. Smaller or tourist-heavy areas might only permit applications within the last week before expiration.

You find out what immigration office serves the province you're staying in, and you apply at that immigration office. Each immigration office has their own requirements, so one answer can't tell you what you need because it's different everywhere. I've attached a list of general requirements but it might not match where you apply.

Most immigration offices allow you to apply when you have 30 days or less left. Some of the larger offices allow you to apply when you have 45 days or less left (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai), and some only allow you apply during your last week (Pattaya, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan)

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Just to confirm, when you mention that I can apply with 30-45 days left, is that referring to the remaining days of my 60-day visa exemption?

yes, the time remaining on the stamp you receive in your passport when you arrive.
