Re: cancelling the non-b visa and work permit, I had to cancel the visa first and the HR manager has to bring a photocopy of my passport with the cancellation stamp to the Ministry of Labour to cancel the work permit, not the other way around (i.e. the old process). This seems to be a new thing, so I thought I’d post it. FYI.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for cancelling a non-B visa has changed; now the visa must be cancelled first before the work permit can be cancelled. The HR manager needs to provide a photocopy of the passport with the cancellation stamp to the Ministry of Labour for the work permit cancellation. This may relate to a memo from late 2017 that requires employers to report to immigration the day a foreign employee ceases work.

Maybe something to do with the memo that was released at the end of 2017 regarding Employers having to report to immigration the day a foreign employee ceased to work for them or face heavy fines?

I just remember that article. It was either in the Bangkok post or The Nation. Pattaya radio ran it for about 3 days. It was too start in 2018, i cannot remember when though.
