Hello! I have a question about Work Permit and its cancellation.

I have changed an employer, so it means I need to get new work permit. I have a new Non-b visa valid for 3 months, but my old WP is still valid for couple of months. Recently it occurred that my previous employer didnt cancel my WP as promised. Now he says that he doesn't know how to do it and generally doesnt care about my problem. New employer said that I cannot cancel wp on my own. Is it true?? Anyone tried to cancel WP in Labour Office?? Or is there any other option if my previous employer doesnt want to cooperate?? I cannot wait any longer, as I don't want to do another visa run :(

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on canceling their work permit after changing employers, as their previous employer has failed to do so. Despite having a new Non-B visa, the old work permit remains valid for a couple more months. Comments from the community suggest that the user can directly visit the Labour Office to cancel the permit, as it requires the old work permit for the process. Additionally, it's advised to check on the status of the previous Non-B visa to ensure it's also been canceled.

FWIW: this is the form you use at the Dept of Labor to cancel a work permit. They give then out there though ;)

- already cancelled my WP yaaay! I though it's impossible to do it but it's done!

This happened to me. You must get the old work permit and take it to Ministry of Labour office to cancel in person. By the way, you should cancel the previous Non B visa as well. If they didn't cancel your WP correctly, I am willing to wager they didn't properly cancel your visa as well. I had to do a costly visa run because I ran out of time on my 3 months Non B by the time it was discovered my previous school didn't cancel my visa.

in fact, it is crazy...

I didn't know you had to cancel your extension of stay, that's crazy.

Ok, so today I went do Labour Office first and cancelled my WP - it took less than 10 minutes! Then I went to the immigration to ask about my Visa status and to make sure if I need to cancel or do anything with the extension of my old visa or not - the officer said that everything is fine and there is no need to cancel it.. He said that I can apply for new WP and new visa.. So i guess it depends on the officer and his knowledge about visas...

There is a huge different between Visa and Extension Of Stay in regulations and requirements. Calling them same same but different only brings confusion in what to do. Good luck tomorrow

Than you stil have to visit Immigration with the papers from cancelling Work Permit and cancel your Extension of Stay till 19 Oct.

I mean that my 1-year non-b visa (from the previous school, which I was pretty sure was already cancelled, stamp looks similar like the one you posted) says I can stay in Thailand till 19th October. But this month I didn another visa run to get a new Non-B visa, which is valid till 29th October
Robert *******
@Martyna **********
, than you can stay till 29 Oct and what do you mean with your old 1 year visa? A stamp like this, but not with retirement on it::
Kari ********
Robert, she was on extension of stay at previous school. It doesn't get automatically canceled from her leaving Thailand or finishing her contract as it happened to me.
Robert *******
It is easy if you use the correct words stated on the stamp or sticker in your passport, calling things different names did not get me trough school.

seems to be totally complicated... the last one is a stamp with my new Non-b visa which i got when I left Malaysia, saying that its valid till 29th October. My old 1 year visa would be valid till 19th October.
Robert *******
Mixing up names makes things confusing. If you have a valid VISA from a Consulate or Embassy it stays valid. If you are on an Extension Of Stay a stamp from local Immigration Office it need to be cancelled the same day as the day the reason why you got that extension is finished.
Kari ********
Immigration will tell u if it's been canceled or not by your previous school.
Robert *******
@Mar****
, what are the last stamps in your passport?

@Rob***
so where can I check if my visa was cancelled and if not where can I cancel it?
Kari ********
No, not multiple entry. I wish u luck tomorrow. The thing with red tape at immigration is it depends who you get to process your paperwork. They all tell you different things at different times.

And yes, Robert is correct. I meant you need to cancel your extension of stay (what we referred to as 1 yr Non B).
Robert *******
Immigration will not cancel a VISA, they only cancel an Extension Of Stay based on working.

@Ka**
maybe you mean a multiple entry visa??? Anyway, will try tomorrow to find out what are the options at the immigration and labour office.. thank you

@Kari *******
Really?? Ohh..at the immigration they told me that leaving country would work, and the same said my new school. I am totally totally totally confused
Kari ********
Unfortunately leaving the country doesn't cancel the old one. I know because you guessed it, it happened to me. After I left my old job, I flew to Malaysia to get back in on a tourist exempt stamp. I thought everything was kosher when they granted me the 3 months. The 3 months was up so we went to apply for my 1 yr Non B and they discovered my previous Non B was never canceled. It makes no sense whatsoever, right? But you gotta remember, this is Thailand. Nothing ever makes sense.

Thank you. I know about cancelling visa, when I left my previous school I left the country immediately to cancel my visa as I was afraid of having an overstay. Now I have a new Non-B provided by new school.
Robert *******
Just walk inside labor office and tell them you want to cancel your work permit, at least that is what I have done twice.
