We are in Bangkok now and would like to apply for a visa to stay in Thailand for total of 60 days. Both our US and Canada allow us to stay here for 30 days. What is the process for visa application? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a total of 60 days stay in Thailand while currently in Bangkok, you should first verify how you entered the country. If you entered on a 30-day visa exemption (which is applicable for US and Canadian citizens), you can extend your stay for another 30 days at a local Immigration Office. The extension costs 1,900 baht and requires a photocopy of your passport's main page and entry stamp, your departure card, a 4cm x 6cm photo, and a completed TM.7 form. Note that tourist visas must be applied for outside of Thailand.

Here’s a guide on visa/visa exempt and extensions. Safe travels.
Check your passport stamp. If you arrived without a visa - visa exempt it is 30 days for Canadian and US citizens and you can extend 30 days. You need a photocopy of passport main page, page with stamp from your arrival and the departure card in addition 4cm x 6cm photo and filled out TM.7 form. Cost is 1,900 baht.
If you entered on 30-day visa exempt basis you can visit an immigration office and extend a further 30 days, which will give you the 60 days required. The cost of the extension is 1900baht.
There is no such beast as a 45-day visa/visa exempt.
sorry I should say our passports do not require visa and can stay in Thailand for 30 days. If we want to extend the stay to 60 days while we are in Bangkok, what is the process? Thanks.
I went last month to muang thong Thani, they will give you a 30 day extension , you need passport copy and passport photo (both can be done there for around 100 baht , there is a form you need to fill and they will give it to you once they have seen your passport , whole process took 30 mins
