Can I apply for a 60-day tourist visa in Thailand after receiving a 30-day entry stamp?

We are sitting at Immigration Division 1. When we arrived they gave us a 30 day visa when we exited the plain. We are now trying to apply for a 60 day visa with the ability to get a 30 day extension but they are saying we can only get 30 days. Is this because we got 30 days when we arrived?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user at Immigration Division 1 mistakenly sought to convert their 30-day visa exempt entry stamp into a 60-day tourist visa while in Thailand. However, it's clarified that visa applications for tourist visas must be made at an embassy outside of Thailand before arrival. They can only obtain a 30-day extension of their current visa exemption for a fee at a local immigration office, highlighting the critical need for expats to understand visa regulations before traveling.

Bro you know what's crazy is that I watched about 100 YouTube videos and called the embassy in the us and talked to them and they all just said you can get one once you get there. It's all good though they probably just did under what I was looking for. I will just go to another country or something.

As I posted. I also went to the embassy but there was a miscommunication somewhere along the way. All good though it happens.

you probably confused the 30 day extension you can get on either a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa, with the act of getting an actual tourist visa, which must be done before entering Thailand. Visas are used to enter a country, not to extend a stay once you are in the country. You probably didn't pay attention to the semantics and terms used. I am certain the Thai consulate did not actually say you can apply for a tourist visa once you've arrived in Thailand, and beyond unlikely that 100 YouTube videos also said something so incorrect. You just assumed extensions and a new visa are the same thing.

yeah like I said it was probably just a miscommunication.

There isn't a country on earth that will give you a tourist visa when you are already in the country... what made you think this was possible?
Bart **************
No it's because you can't get a tourist visa in Thailand at all, no matter what you got when you exited the plain.

Man, what did you expect? If they could give tourist visas to people already here, what are extensions good for then?

Probably better to find these things out before you travel.

If you arrived without any visa, you would have received a 30 day visa exempt stamp. This is not a visa, it's an entry stamp. Visa exempt is eligible for ONE 30-day extension.

If you wanted the tourist visa that gives you 60 days, you would have had to apply for that from your Thai embassy before you traveled to Thailand, you cannot get it inside the country.

You also cannot apply for the visa exempt 30 day extension at Chaeng Watthana. You do that at the immigration office at IT Square Laksi. Chaeng Watthana only processes extensions for people who arrived with an actual visa.

Yes you have to apply for the 60 day setv before arriving in the country.

With your current visa exemption you can only extend once for 1900 baht at local immigration office.

You cannot apply for a tourist visa in country. You must exit the country and apply at an embassy elsewhere
