Hi all! I am malaysian and planning to visit thailand on november. However, the visa exemption only allow to stay up to 30 days. Can anyone advise how can I apply to extend the stay to 60 days? Is STV the correct visa?
Should I apply STV before I go to thailand? If yes, can we apply online or we must visit the royal thai embassy in person?
Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Malaysian planning to visit Thailand can initially stay for up to 30 days under the visa exemption. To extend the stay to 60 days, one can apply for a 30-day extension at a local immigration office in Thailand. This requires necessary documents, including a valid passport, copies of visa and immigration stamps, two passport photos, and a fee of 1,900 THB. Alternatively, obtaining a single-entry tourist visa before arrival allows a 60-day stay, which can also be extended by an additional 30 days. Regarding the STV, it permits a longer stay of up to 270 days but involves meeting specific conditions.
hi, Tod, so people from Visa exempt country can enter TH and get the visa on arrival now? When they apply for the 30 days extension, do they need to have the return ticket already? Thanks in advance for your help.
thank you for the answers! To clarify, according to what being said, so without applying STV, traveller with visa exemption can actually apply for a 30 days extension, by providing the doc above, after I have entered Thailand and go to the immigration office nearby.
Am I correct to say this? Sorry had been reading too many info these days and confusing myself ๐
For a 30 day visa exempt (ASSUMING YOU'RE FROM A VISA EXEMPT COUNTRY), on entry you are granted a 30 day stamp. You can get ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism.
For a single entry tourist visa, you are stamped in for 60 days, and you can get ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism
For an STV, on entry, you are stamped in for 90 days, and you can get TWO 90 day extension of stay based on STV, for a total of 270 days.
To stay a total of 60 days in Thailand, you can acquire a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism. You can acquire this extension of stay at the local immigration office where you are residing. You will need the following:
1. Your passport and:
a. a copy of your data ("picture") page
b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)
c. a copy of your most recent stamp
d. a copy of your departure card
2. [Might not be needed for Bangkok] A TM30, filed in the immigration office.
3. The extension of stay request form
4. 2x passport pictures
5. 1,900 THB.

An STV allows you to stay up to 270 days, in increments of 90 days. There are more rules to acquire this visa however.

Get a single entry tourist visa before you come here, that will get you stamped in for 60 days and then you can get a 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht after you're here
