TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the approval of a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, celebrating the five-year validity period with a sense of relief after prior struggles with different agencies. Comments raise questions about the visa's requirements, such as the necessity for tax returns and maintaining a Thai bank account. Some users share their experiences of applying for similar visas, highlighting the process duration, agency recommendations, and perspectives on living in Thailand as digital nomads. Overall, the conversation emphasizes both excitement and practical concerns related to residency and financial management as expats in Thailand.
It probably took around two weeks, maybe three max. After sending all the documents I was asked, they asked for some extra documents which I was able to provide. It was approved a couple of days later.
I didn’t go through any agency. I think I paid around €350 in total.
No point anymore, baht is shite , bank accounts are getting closed the scams are wild fire now and the price of everything is going up.. ive spent 10 years here in the last 25 years.. its gone downhill big time..
who need a Thai bank account anyway? Prices going up anywhere in the world, called inflation. Baht is just 200€ more for 100k baht than 1 year ago. Live in Switzerland for same quality is 10-15k Euro and here 3-5k Euro
pay bills like electric and water is possible in 7 eleven with cash, rent I can transfer with wise and CHF is more stable than THB, so better keep it until you need it
yeah for me it's easier than have a bank account they just freeze when they like it

I applied for mine and got it in under 48h. Just a question is the digital paper as you show above enough or do we need to go consulate and get a sticker in passport like I have fe. for Vietnam also 5y?
sorry to hear about that elite visa have been around for quite some time where DTV is only available last July'24 I'm sure you would have chosen DTV over elite if it's available to you cheers
i just spent 2 hours at the bank trying to save my existing account, i provided all statements with proof of income and proof of all my transfers to my thai bank that I've have for 18 months and they said no and cancelled it.. I said that so many people still have there's on a DTV and they said "not for long" ... they wouldn't even give me a cent i have to go back on Thursday to get my cash out..
are you thick?? I had my account before on another visa.. transferred to the DTV because it's longer.. now I've had my account shut because im on a DTV... how dumb are you mr detective...
I am going through the process now so 🤞🏼mine gets approved as well. Thailand has always felt like home to me since 2017 and I and hoping they welcome me into their kingdom

You received the message today ???because am also waiting for an approval ....yesterday was still in pending approval....since monday....congratulations
Haha not stress free. They’ll question you at the border if they feel you are only staying in Thailand and not travelling like digital nomads are supposed to do
very stressfree and you can literaly spend 5 years in thailand on DTV. no problems at all. and it is not only for digital nomads. a remote worker can surely live allmost constantly in the country. and it is also for those people ;)
you become Thai tax resident at 180 days. Whether or not you become liable to pay tax is up to you, your income streams and the tax agreement of your home nation
this whole place is an administrative shit show, no point at this point. If I get followed up for it sure otherwise why create more work for yourself when part of a dual tax agreement country
I’m paying taxes in Australia, how on earth are the going to track my credit card spending not worth the hassle I’m sure 90% of DTV holders aren’t submitting any tax returns seeing you can’t even open a bank here
if there's a dual tax agreement, you don't need to pay tax to Thai. But for the DTV if you stay longer than 6 months, I think you need to voluntarily tell them all the income that is brought here. Like you say, difficult to trace and ATM they seem lax with it. However,I think this Visa is a way to tax foreigners in the near future and they probably become stricter and link up better with immigration so tax dept knows who's here longer than 6 months (tax resident).

And you also supposed to get taxed on the entire year's remittance if longer than 6 months. I think if they enforce this many expats will leave for a better place.
yeah I’ll wait to see if that ever happens, no point filing returns creating more work, I’m sure they have bigger issues to focus on than chase up DTV holders for their tax returns seeing I’m not actually remitting any money into any Thai bank
not needed if one is a remote worker. I get paid my monthly salary in my home country bank account. I'm not moving (nor I need to) my money from that local account to Thailand. What for?
