What is the procedure to obtain a '7 days to leave' visa extension in Thailand?

Hello!

I am wondering about 7 days to leave visa. Because my tourist visa (45 exempt + 30 extension) expires 7 days before I am meeting my family in Japan. I vaguely remember some people would get '7 days to leave the country' visas if they went to immigration office the day of their expiry?

It was happening when people were denied further Tourist COVID extension visas due to having had education visas in the past.

Grateful for any reliable info on this 🙏 of course, I can also just leave earlier but I am wondering if there's an option.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your tourist visa is about to expire and you're not eligible for an extension, you can apply for a visa extension which, if denied, will give you a '7 days to leave' stamp. This option requires a fee of 1900 baht. However, it's important to note that the immigration office has discretion in approving or denying your extension application, so it's not guaranteed you will receive the 7 days.

It's not something you can rely on, because the immigration office doesn't have to accept your application for an extension and give you the 7 days to leave stamp. They can just reject your application if they want. But if they do accept it you'll pay the 1900â‚ż and get the 7 day denial stamp. Usually the day you get the stamp is day 1.

I see! So I'd have to fly out same day if they refuse to take my application. If they take it and deny it I get 7 days and pay 1900.

Thank you very much for the info! I'll feel into whether it's worth the risk! 🙏

it’s not a 7 days visa. It doesn’t look good to have a 7 days denied stamp in your passport. If you really need more than 75 days but under 90 days. Just do a border run at the end of your 45 days visa exempt. That way you will have close to 90 days in Thailand. Without any bad record in your passport.

I see! Thanks for adding that. Yeah I plan to return to Thailand same year so better not to have this. Thank you!

If you're not eligible for an extension, you can apply for another extension and get denied. A denied extension gives you 7 additional days to leave the country, still costs 1900 baht.
