at this point they are just turning people away who do not meet the requirements for an extension.

AFAIK; there has been NO cases of people applying for the 30 day extension, getting an under consideration stamp and then going back to be told they were denied. IF they accept your application and give you the under consideration stamp you'll get the extension until the 26th of Oct.
