Hi, I have a work permit and visa extension. I need to renew my passport, does anyone know the procedure on how to transfer the visa from my existing passport to the new passport.

My old passport will be void as soon as Iโ€™m issued a new one.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To transfer the visa from your old passport to a new one in Thailand, you need to visit the immigration office that issued your visa. Bring both the old passport and the new passport, along with a letter from your embassy (if provided) that requests the transfer of the stamps. Even though your old passport will be voided, the stamps will still be valid until they are transferred.

As Tod says, and, pro tem, take both passports with you when travelling

Just because your old passport is voided doesn't mean the stamps in it are. ๐Ÿ˜‰

When you renew your passport inside the country, most embassies include a letter with the new passport stating that you need to get the stamps moved.

You take the old passport the new passport and the letter from your embassy (if they gave you one) to the immigration office that issued your extension stamp and they will transfer the stamps to the new passport.

you stated ' ..renew .. inside the country".. how about external/home country ? Same applies (assuming your current passport is valid after expiry of visa, but you return back to home country and get passport renewed and return to thailand before visa expiry) ?

you show BOTH passports when you stamp IN to the country and then if you're on an extension of stay you go to the immigration office that issued it and get the stamps transferred to the new passport

same procedure. As

replied. Go to your local Thai Immigration office.

Just to add, it's a quick process. You most likely won't have to wait for hours like those that are getting visa extensions.

It's actually can be quite lengthy because IO has to transfer all stamps since your last visa (sticker)

Andrei well, it took very little when I had to do it.

in bangkok at Chaengwattana you queue up at the section where you got your extension, SO depending on how many people are in the queue ahead of you it could be a wait ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't remember having to queue at the section where others were applying for extensions. I do remember it took me longer to get there than getting my visa transferred to my new passport.
