What is the procedure for handling a DTV visa when renewing a passport in Thailand?
I just renewed my passport and went to Chiang Mai Immigration to do a visa transfer. The immigration officer advised that I don’t need to do it—instead, I just need to leave the country when it is time, return, and present both passports on arrival. Immigration will then stamp my new passport.
I was also advised to email the DTV issuing authority in Hanoi to update my new passport number in my current(DTV).
Has anyone had a similar experience recently? I’ve heard different procedures in the past, so would really appreciate hearing how it worked for others—especially as on-the-ground policies seem to be evolving.

Wow! This is info/misinfo, overload. A Thai co-worker tells me it is confusing because the govt changes policy often and it doesnt get passed down well

Immigration can only transfer stamps which originated from an Immigration office or officer. Immigration cannot transfer any visas which got issued by Thai embassies outside of Thailand. You should print your DTV and laminate it, and always be ready to show both passports - old and new - and the laminated visa when you enter Thailand

If you have a bank account, your bank also vant to update it, to your new passport.

Yes. Don't need to transfer as told. Just present both old passport with the valid visa (all types of visa) and the new one. When time for renewal.. do the same . Both passports copies etc.

DTV visas are not transferred and you use both passports until the DTV record is updated with your new passport number like the officer informed you.

I understand what you are asking but as your DTV is issued against a passport that no longer exists I'm suggesting you contact the issuing consulate and request they re-issue the DTV PDF against your new passportCliff *********
