My passport (USA) needs to be renewed soon - does anyone have information of the process for getting DTV transferred to new passport? Is it easy to get new passport from CM or better to do from the states? Can you have a new passport and still show old passport and DTV for entry? Thank you for any information!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing a U.S. passport in Thailand, expatriates can go to the U.S. Embassy in Chiang Mai, which typically processes passport renewals by mail within approximately three weeks. It is advisable to carry both the old and new passports when traveling, as the old passport containing the DTV (Dependent Visa) should remain with you for the duration of the visa. While entry stamps can be transferred to the new passport, the DTV status itself cannot be directly transferred; valid procedures should be followed for maintaining visa status after receiving the new passport.

You carry both passports with you for the life of the visa. You can get your current entry stamp transferred to your new passport when you get it but the DTV you cannot.

I’m not fully aware of the passport renewal process for a US passport but I believe it can be done via mail fairly easily.
