What is the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system and how does it affect travelers?

Mar 29, 2025
3 days ago
There have been some updates surrounding the new system that replaces the TM6 called the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC).

We have compiled information surrounding the topic here:

[members only]

Official sources confirm that this system will become mandatory as of May 1, so you don't need to take any action immediately.

Simply remember to apply within three days before your travel date, as applications cannot be submitted earlier than that.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Starting May 1st, 2025, the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) will replace the TM6 form for all travelers entering Thailand. Applicants can submit their TDAC up to three days before their travel date, allowing for easier processing. However, there are concerns regarding how the system will work for those with retirement visas or multiple accommodation addresses, and some travelers are apprehensive about potential confusion during the implementation phase. The system aims to streamline the entry process but comes with challenges related to digital accessibility and hotel information requirements.

Do you have to put every date hotel and address your staying ? Iv 7 hotels and dates
Graeme ******
@Frank ********
it looks like there's a first stay location then an update button? Is this for each location/place of stay or each visit into thailand so the system remembers all of your personal details?
Graeme ******
Very interesting looks ok apart from all.the details for accommodation where if you are unfamiliar with thailands address format you will struggle to fill it in, looks like all the fields are mandatory or the form won't accept your input? When filling in a card you didn't have to get it right if you didn't know!!! Now you need to get it right. Most infrequent travellers won't have a clue!!!!

Well, this is another unnecessary barrier to travel.

TM6 was not used for a long time.

Travelers from the Americas lose 1 day because of the date change.

Travelers who first visit places with difficult to access internet, like China, will struggle to fill out this Arrival Card.

Travelers who are not fluent in English will struggle also.

Furthermore, the Airlines will not know how to use this Arrival Card, causing confusion and delays at check in.

Lastly, there are many opportunities for messing up critical information like passport numbers and dates.
Melissa *************
@David *****
there used to be arrival & departure cards for many years. You could fill on the flight or at the immigration queue upon arrival. It disappeared for a while now coming back as an online form to be submitted 3 days prior

right, oh I remember it was a pain in the tail, I would always have to scramble to find a pen. 🤣🤣. I have not seen the cards in years. Even before COViD I don't remember the cards. But definitely after COViD no cards.

Richard ********
@Jason ******
Obviously you are a newbee. The paper TM6 forms were stopped for air arrivals about 30 months ago, and the 60 day visa exemption only came in about 8 months ago.

The ONLY confusion in these issues is when all the Buakhao Boozers get online during their afternoon session and start dabbing away on their phones, hypothesizing, gossipping and expressing their opinions.

I suggest that you ignore all of this noise and wait until the Thai government makes a definitive statement.

In this particular case the Thai government website was linked and a simple click would have given you your answer, which I took the trouble of posting to you.

Thailand is aiming for 800,000 arrivals every week. Unbelievably the vast majority manage to work out what to do themselves.

Parents have been dead for 25 years.

Brandon ************
@Nick ******
I don't know what you're looking at, but that's talking about ETA which was only meant for visa exempt arrivals and is on permanent hold. This is about TDAC which is different.
Ashley ********
You can't do in the BKK as the internet needs a local phone number (unless that changed recently) which you don't have until you pass the place in which you need the internet. I really wish people would stop saying internet is available in BKK. It isn't unless you have a Thai phone number. It also only last one hour BTW. Once you get outside there is another system which you can access near the grab booth (if it works). This usually works but its too late by then. Immigration (were) planning on putting booths in arrivals to allow people to complete it but i am guessing currently that airlines will add this to the "list" of things you need to have done it prior to boarding BUT I'm yet to get any info on this from the IATA. If it gets added to timatic i will be told but by then people may have been caught..
Will ************

you will have to do it BEFORE you arrive in Thailand and before you board the aircraft to Thailand.

This is amazing....you tell they you don't a return ticket...it gets accepted. Airline possibly deny you boarding based on the rules for your country of residence and departure point. Amazing.....No options for people with existing visas in the list of purpose of visit. What do you put if you live here with residence? Retirement Visa also no option but "other". The country list is all over the place as always. British is under G then other times is UK under U.

What about people who book a flight last minute? I’ve done that many times; depressed after a week of long work days, have a drink on a Thursday night thinking “I need a weekend getaway” and bought flights to depart Friday 😂What happens then? At least the paper version could have been filled in during the flight or on arrival

PS I’m NOT talking about how long it takes to fill the form, it’s about the “must be submitted 3 days prior” that I’m addressing.
George *******
@Melissa ************
A weekend getaway to Thailand? So you must live within a two to four hours flight time of Thailand 🤔🤔🤔
Melissa *************
@George ******
exactly. Home is Hong Kong but have a house in Bangkok, 3 hr flight time. I do the trip at least once a month, most of the time do last minute bookings.
Ron ******
@Melissa ************
We’ve had a similar system running in NZ for a year or so. You get a confirmation email within a couple of minutes of submitting. It’s all linked to your passport, scan on arrival, done. The dinosaur hand-written card system is still available for anyone who is unable to complete electronically or likes filling in forms. No reason for it to take three days, maybe they meant you can only complete within three days of travel.
Melissa *************
@Ron *****
that’s what I’m trying to figure out, there tends to be translation ambiguities here. What the official translation is at the moment

“When to Submit Your TDAC

Foreigners should submit their arrival card information 3 days in advance of arriving in Thailand, including the date of arrival. This allows sufficient time for processing and verification of the information provided.”

3 days in advance means minimum 3 days before arrival, but is that the official Thai statement or translation error? 🤷🏼‍♀️
THAI ******************************

The system allows you to do it up to that amount of time at maximum.

So we will error on the side of caution until they make it more clear.

@Helmut ********
yeah when you live in Hong Kong and have family and a house in Bangkok, you end up doing 2 trips a month on average, mostly booked last minute when I find I have a free weekend. It’s a 3hr max flight so yeah, weekend trip to Thailand. Why is that an issue for you?

have you tried it? Jo, because it is not operational yet. Calm down and wait and see what happens.

is that your interpretation or are you working with immigration department? I know there can be translation ambiguities with official releases. So I’d understand if you know what the department actually said but the English translation is sounding different.

The official translation is “When to Submit Your TDAC

Foreigners should submit their arrival card information 3 days in advance of arriving in Thailand, including the date of arrival. This allows sufficient time for processing and verification of the information provided.”
Bunny *****
@Melissa ************
do you use your phone on the way to the airport? Or do you use your phone during the 2 hours wait at the airport? Do you walk from your arrival gate to the passport area? Do you have to wait to queue to get your passport chopped? So many last minute opportunities to fill in the form till the very last minute. Don't have to worry. If no one is in the queue just stand at the side to fill in before getting your passport choped to enter thailand. Is that last minute enough foe you?
Melissa *************
@Bunny ****
have you actually read what I wrote? What the official translation is at the moment

“When to Submit Your TDAC

3 days in advance means minimum 3 days before arrival.

Many disliked the paper version because it could delay deboarding.

Depending on the airline, it might be handed out too early, while you were asleep, or even after landing.

It’s much simpler to take a few minutes before your flight to save the digital document they provide.

Ultimately, nothing beats not having to complete the TM6 or TDAC at all.

If you really cant bother with it our team will include it in our FastTrack services at no additional cost.

Loong William The smiley on Brandon Thurkettle’s comment shows you don’t even know the difference between visa on arrival and visa exempt…

Your question “What to do if you decide to travel the day before?” is easily answered: You fill out the online form, which can be done in the cab while driving to the airport. Don’t try to fill the form when you are driving! 😉

/edit: seems I have to retract the second half. You have to fill out the form “at least” three days before arrive. The OP seems to be wrong.

/edit2: My comment was correct. You can only register max 4 days before departure, not earlier, but you can also register on departure / arrival date.

There’s nothing wrong with this system. Try entering the USAR as a foreigner without any prior registration. All three Russia’s, European, Asian and American, have been doing this for years already.

No “just show my passport”. And I suggest that European countries start implementing very strict visa requirements for travelers with Russian passport, even when these are fake with symbols of the former USA.
