Recommendation or ideas please.

60 year old Aussie currently living in Oz with my Thai wife and our daughter but looking to move back to Thailand to live full time.

What’s the best and easiest visa to go with or is there anything else available?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 60-year-old Australian national seeking to move back to Thailand with his Thai wife and daughter is exploring visa options. Suggestions include applying for a Retirement Visa, which has fewer hassles, or a Marriage Visa, which requires less financial proof but comes with more complications. It is advised to check the Thai Embassy website for detailed requirements. The comments highlight that while a Retirement Visa does not permit work, a Marriage Visa allows the holder to obtain a work permit, which is crucial for anyone aiming for permanent residency or citizenship.

Under a retirement visa extension you can not legally work. With a marriage visa extension you can get a work permit, and work. This becomes very important if you decide you want to get permanent residency, or citizenship, as you must work, and pay Thai income tax for three years to apply, plus some other requirements, but working is a must. This can be important because getting permanent residency, or citizenship, means you don't have to deal with immigration any more. No visa requirements or 90 day reports. If you get citizenship then you can legally own land. Just a few things to think about

do you have to prove you can speak Thai to get permanent residency?

ideally yes, but because the determination is based on a points system, you can get permanent residency without speaking and understanding a word of Thai. The more money you make working above the minimum, the more points you get. The higher level of education you have the more points you get, so you can get permanent residency without speaking Thai, although it's easier if you do.

Retirement visa is good with few hassles. Marriage visa requires less finances but has more hassles.
