Hi, me and my partner are moving to chiang mai in September, we are from the UK, what's the best way to get a 60 or 90 day visa to begin with? Doing it in the UK or once we are in the country on a 30 day visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats from the UK moving to Chiang Mai can consider obtaining a 60-day tourist visa through the Thai Embassy in the UK, which can be extended for an additional 30 days once in Thailand. Alternatively, they can enter Thailand visa-exempt for 30 days, extend it for 30 days at an immigration office, or apply for a visa in a neighboring country after initial entry.

Enter visa exempt, get 30 day stamp. You can extend this once for an additional 30 days at your nearest immigration office. Or apply for a single entry tourist visa prior to departing your home country, get stamped in for 60 days. You can extend this once for an additional 30 days at your nearest immigration office.

You can also enter visa exempt, get the 30 days and extension, then go to a neighboring country then re-enter Thailand visa exempt or apply for a tourist visa at the Thai embassy in that country.

You can get an extended visa from the Thai Embassy in your home country, then do an extension here.

I meant the holiday visa, either the one you don't have to apply for or one you can apply for online for free

there isn't a holiday visa. You can enter with NO visa for 30 days ( visa exempt) and extend that at immigration for 30 days.

okay thank you, is there a 60 day visa that I can extend for another 30 days if I'm from the uk?

yes , its a tourist visa and you need to apply in your own country or out of Thailand. That will get you 60 days and you can extend that 30 days.
