Dear all,

I am a Malaysian and would like to apply a visa to stay in chiang mai for 3 months.

Ist true that I would need to apply it in chiang mai itself?

If it is, could I know how and what are the process of doing so?

Thank you very much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Malaysian wanting to stay in Chiang Mai for 3 months should apply for a tourist visa before arriving in Thailand, at a Thai Embassy or consulate in Malaysia. This visa provides a 60-day stay, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at the immigration office in Chiang Mai, totaling 89 days.

If you want to stay in Chiang Mai for 3 months you should apply for a tourist visa BEFORE you go to Thailand, at a Thai Embassy or consulate in your home country.

With a tourist visa you will receive a 60-day stamp to stay in Thailand.

You can then apply one time for a 30-day extension at the immigration office in Chiang Mai.

This will give you 89 days, since the day you arrive in Thailand is counted as day 1.
