Hello! I have a simple question yet it's been hard to find a definitive answer: What visa do I need to live in Chiang Mai for around 90 days, starting September 2nd? Special Tourist Visa? Or a normal tourist visa + extensions? Something else? Thank you for the help :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
To live in Chiang Mai for approximately 90 days, starting September 2nd, you can apply for a single-entry tourist visa from a Thai consulate in your home country. This visa grants you an initial stay of 60 days upon entry to Thailand, which can then be extended once for an additional 30 days at the immigration office. It's important to note that the tourist visa must be used within its validity period, and if you're considering other types of visas, the specific purpose of your stay may affect your options.

ok, It works like this

a tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date you get it issued <- meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand on it

When you enter (even if it's the last day the visa is valid for) you'll get stamped in for 60 days <- the amount of time you get entering on a tourist visa,

AND

you can extend that once for 30 days at the immigration office

Perfect, thank you!!

Don’t forget the visa is only valid for 90 days once issued. For instance if it was issued today it would expire in 90 days from now, it must be used to enter Thailand before the "valid until" date.

Perfect, thanks! I think I read about a certificate of entry in addition to visas, I'm guessing that's what this is about

see what the entry requirements are when you're getting closer to comin' into the country.

Just to make sure I'm understanding right: are you saying you get a visa and can enter for the following 90 days, and then you can stay an additional 90 days (assuming extension) AFTER you enter? Or you can only stay for 90 days in total after the date of issue on the visa?

For example, if you got a visa on August 1st, you could enter until around November 1st. But if you entered on October 1st, would you still have to leave on November 1st (around 30 days)? Or could you stay for 60 days + extension until around January 1st (around 90 days)?

Let me know if that question makes sense

the first. There is a 90 day time limit to use the Visa and when u do u get 90 days of u do the extension too.

Interesting, I hadn't thought about that. That may change some things 🤔

get the visa shortly before you're comin' here and you'll be fine. Few people have a problem getting to thailand within the 90 days the visa is valid for entry

no the time starts on the day you get stamped in at Immigration. The Visa sticker will have a valid to date on it, you have to enter Thailand prior to that date.

reread my reply. Visa issue date is not permitted to stay stamp upon entry.

Other options depends on what purpose you want to stay that specific 90days.

You're a LONG way from September :/

I'd say get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in your country before you wing your way here. That will get you stamped in for 60 days and you can get a 30 day extension one time on it giving you 90 days.
