Does anyone know what happens in this situation?
My friend is applying for a one year student visa that will end 3 months after the expiration of his passport. His passport expires 10 months from now so it's a little early to get a new one. Does anyone know what happens to the visa in this case? Will it carry over to the new passport? Many thanks!
TLDR : Answer Summary
If your friend's student visa is applied for in Thailand, it will only be granted until the current passport expires. Therefore, if the passport expires in 10 months, the visa will not be valid for the full year; it will only be valid for the remaining duration of the passport. Upon getting a new passport, he would need to apply for a new extension as he would not receive the additional three months that the old passport had left.
