If already in Thailand, does having more than 6 months remaining validity on the passport matter in the case of extending an ED visa?
In the process of renewing for my son and it hit me that his passport expires in less than this...and the American embassy's appointments are a month out.
TLDR : Answer Summary
Having more than 6 months remaining on a passport is not a requirement for extending an ED visa in Thailand. However, the extension will only be valid until the passport's expiration date. In the specific case discussed, even though the child's passport was set to expire soon, immigration provided a one-year extension as usual, allowing ample time for passport renewal later.
