Will my non-immigrant B visa be extended even if my passport expires before the visa date?

Hello, I received a non-immigrant multiple entry B visa from Thai immigration on 26 March 2024. Instead of expiring at the end of this year or early next year, the visa expires on October 9 because that was when my old passport was expiring.

My visa has now been moved to my new passport but I now hear that it wonโ€™t be extended until the end of the year and a application has to be made for a new non-b visa. Is this true?

I ask because I have already booked tickets to Italy end of September until October 13 and and my current visa expires on October 9. I thought this would be a simple matter of extension but it doesnโ€™t seem to be the case?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the extension of their non-immigrant multiple entry B visa, which is tied to the expiration of their old passport, set to expire on October 9, 2024. Despite concerns about travel plans to Italy from late September to October 13, the advice received suggests that the visa will not be extended beyond the old passport's expiration. Users emphasize that the visa's validity is linked to the passport's expiration date and that the user may face challenges in extending their stay.

I don't believe you have any non-immigrant multiple entry visa from thai immigration inside the country ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I would wager you actually have an "extension of stay" based on employment AND a multiple re-entry permit which you got separately (LOOK at the stamps in your passport)

Sadly (for you) immigrations is totally correct,

If you apply for a yearly extension and your passport isn't valid that whole year you will only get the extension stamped in until the expiration of the passport

AND

unfortunately getting a new passport won't get you the missing time. Your extension still expires the same time.

At most offices you can apply for a new yearly extension 30 days before this one runs out. So you might be able to time it to work out.

Hi
@Ellie ******
if my employer files for extension on September 9, the hearing process will happen 21 days later and before that I am not authorised to leave the country until then. My travel date is September 27, which is the 18th day from the day of filing ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Chaeng Wattana

, luckily, Chaengwattana accepts an extension application within the last 45 days of your current stamp. You should be able to manage your application in time, I guess.

do you think it would be possible for me to request the immigration bureau to start processing my application a bit earlier since Iโ€™ve already bought my tickets ๐Ÿ˜ž

@Amrita *****
, Your current extension is until 9 October. You leave the kingdom 27 September. You don't have to ask for "earlier processing". Most offices accept 1-year extension within the last 30 days, that means you can apply for your next 1-year extension on or after 9 September. You should have enough time to apply for your extension before your travel as long as your employer provide the documents in time.

your not leaving until the 13th October? You can apply for the extension 30 days before 9th October so that should be plenty of time. Don't forget a re-entry permit once you have the new extension

I think no they won't

BUT

you're out nothing by going TO the immigration office and talking to them about it with your proof you're leaving and see if there's anything they can do.

Keep in mind though they're not obligated to do anything at all ๐Ÿ˜•
