How does renewing my visa work if my passport is expiring during the visa's validity period?

Contact your embassy and enquire as to the current turnover time for a new passport.

You should do this at least 6 months before your renewal date. I don't know how long this (to get new one) can take for your country. But last 1,5 years my country consulate can't issue new document in usual times, because of very slow diplomatic courier post delivery, airlines stop to flight here. A lot of people must wait for 6+ months and I even know the person, who spent several thousands USD to flights, express service (in the home country) and quarantine on return back just to not miss extension because of validity expiration.

I hope situation is not so grim for you, however, you will need to do extension (again) next year by the end of May. And your usual extension date will move to that date, because as explained already, you will get extension only until current passport validity date. Also, the best thing to apply for new passport right now.

When you apply for the extension it will only be until your passport expires. You won’t get the full year.

As Benjamin stated you will only get an extension good until the expiration date of your current passport (June 22, 2022).

You get a new passport, go get your stamps transferred to it and apply for a whole new yearly extension 45 days or less before that extension runs out.

Your one year extension of stay based on employment will be valid for EITHER:

- One year OR;

- The length of your employment OR;

- The remaining time o your passport

Whichever one is less

If you get an extension of stay based on employment, it will be valid up to June 22, 2022. You will need to apply for a new extension of stay after that.
