Hi everyone, my question is about passport validity and visas. I will need to first get a 90 day spouse visa in a neighbouring country, then return to Thailand and apply for the 1 year visa. However, my passport will expire in around a year.

Does your passport need to have one year validity to get the marriage visa? 

If not, does getting a new passport within Thailand impact the visa in any way?

I was originally thinking of just getting a new passport but I have booked some flights and hotels with my current passport and it seems like less hassle to use that existing passport if possible.

Not sure what country ur from, BUT i just got a new US passport by mail

took 41 day total from when i sent old one to Bangkok, till I got new one in Phuket.

extensions will only be issued as long as passport is valid

If u apply for a 1 year extension but only have 10 months on ur passport, u will only get 10 months

What will happen is that when you apply for the 1 year extension inside Thailand, your extension will not be issued for 1 year and will instead be issued until the expiration date of your passport. Then once you get a new passport you have your extension stamp moved to the new passport and apply for your next extension earlier than normal.
