Hi everyone, my question is about passport validity and visas. I will need to first get a 90 day spouse visa in a neighbouring country, then return to Thailand and apply for the 1 year visa. However, my passport will expire in around a year.
Does your passport need to have one year validity to get the marriage visa?
If not, does getting a new passport within Thailand impact the visa in any way?
I was originally thinking of just getting a new passport but I have booked some flights and hotels with my current passport and it seems like less hassle to use that existing passport if possible.
Much appreciated!
TLDR : Answer Summary
The validity of your passport is crucial when applying for a marriage visa in Thailand. If your passport has less than one year of validity, the visa extension will only be granted for the duration your passport is valid. It's recommended to get a new passport before applying to avoid complications. If you do need to apply with your current passport, be aware that once you get a new passport, you'll need to transfer your visa extension to the new passport.
