Hello,

Hope someone can advise :)

My passport (Italian) will expire during my non immigrant visa for 1 year, I will try to renew my passport while in Thailand, my question is: will I receive my new passport without the visa and I'll have to reapply for the visa?

Thank you :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you renew your passport while on a non-immigrant visa in Thailand, you will receive a new passport without any existing stamps. You must then visit the immigration office to have your visa transferred to the new passport. It is essential to carry both the old and the new passport during border runs or when applying for extensions, as the visa in the old passport cannot be transferred, but any Extension of Stay must be moved.

It’s a good idea to check in advance what documents they will require in addition to your passports

Yes, you receive a new passport without any stamps inside. If you still use the original visa and doing border runs every 90 days, you take both passports, the old one to show the visa, the new one to collect the stamps. If you have a big stamp from Immigration Office with in the second line Extension of Stay permitted up to ../../.. , then you visit the Immigration Office to transfer this stamp into your new passport Difference between a visa (sticker which can not be transferred to new passport) and the Extension of Stay which must be transferred to new passport.

To get a 1 year visa, your passport needs to be valid for at least 18 months. So he's clearly on an extension

Once you have your new passport you will need to go to your immigration office win your Provence and have the visa moved to the new passport.

You will need to take both passports with you to do this.
