I am a UK passport holder on a non O retirement visa.
I need to renew the extension to my retirement visa by 1 July 2023. My passport expires on 18 April 2024. I therefore do not have 12 months left on my passport for the full extension.
Will an extension be granted to the expiry date of my passport? Or will the extension be granted for the full 12 months but then has to be transferred to my new passport?
If I apply for a new passport now and it is not returned by the time of my extension expiry, what happens?
Thank you.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder on a Non-O retirement visa needs to renew their visa extension but faces issues due to their passport expiring before the extension period is complete. The extension can only be granted up to the passport's expiration date. If applying for a new passport, and the renewal isn't returned before the passport expiry, this could result in an overstay. It's advisable to apply for a new passport before attempting to extend the visa to avoid complications.
