Hi everyone.. my friends from the US came to Thailand with a 30-day visa exception, now that their visa is going to expire next week so they want to do Covid-visa extension. In the requirements, an embassy letter (some says it’s called ‘Residence Certification’) from home country’s embassy in Thailand is required so I’d like to ask what kind of documents they should bring to the US embassy in Thailand in order to get the letter. Thank you very much in advance. 🙏🏼

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the documents required for their friends from the US to obtain a Residence Certification from the US Embassy in Thailand to apply for a Covid visa extension. The comments clarify that the friends must first apply for a standard 30-day extension at the Thai immigration office, and that the US Embassy does not provide a COVID extension letter. It is emphasized that the 30-day extension should be obtained before attempting to apply for any further extensions.

your friends have their wires crossed, and remember wanting to get a covid extension doesn't mean they can or will get it 😕.

AND

as people pointed out at most offices they have to take their regular 30 day extension first, so send them to their immigration office and get the 30 day extension for 1900 baht.

while they're there before they apply for the 30 day regular extension have them ask for the covid extension IF that office does it they'll do it or just tell 'em no can't be done and then they take the 30 day one

thank you very much for the tips, they just need to stay 10 more days so the standard 30-day extension will probably be enough. May I ask one more question, is TM-30 still required according to this?

at SOME offices yes, at some no, with over 70 offices in the country it's too hard to give a definite answer. Sorry

Pardon me....my error in reading the question.

The US Embassy does not issue a COVID extension letter.

Your friend can ask for the COVID extension..

BUT your friend most likely will get the 30 day extension of stay FIRST.

Just go to the Thai immigration office ON or BEFORE their stamped in permission to stay date expires.

Apply for the COVID 60 day extension of stay. The Thai immigration officer will decide.
