Hey,

I will be applying for a covid visa extension in chiang mai soon. Is it correct that you don’t need a letter from the US embassy stating I can’t travel due to the pandemic?

Also, I am staying in an apartment for one month but did not sign any lease. Will I need a TM30 and how do I go about getting one?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquiring about the Covid visa extension in Chiang Mai is told that a letter from the US embassy is no longer needed for the application. They are also advised to check with Thai Immigration for specific requirements, as a TM30 form is generally required if the apartment owner did not file it upon their arrival. This form must be obtained within 24 hours of arriving at the accommodation. Failure to present a TM30 during the visa extension application may lead to a denial of the extension and potential fines. It is vital to ensure all documentation is in order before proceeding with the application.

For the requirements about getting a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. ONE requirement is showing a TM30, which shows you live in the province where you're requesting the extension of stay.

If there are further questions, please feel free to make your own post or send a mod a message and we'll reopen commenting. Thank you.

1. I've done 2 covid extensions at Chiang Mai Immigration near the Airport.

No Embassy letter required.

2/Copy of TM30 or copy of TM30 slip attached in passport is required.

This should have been done /obtained within 24 hours of arriving at your accommodation. Your landlord should have done it. If you turn up for you covid extension it's most likely will be declined without a TM30 and you may cop a fine for it not being done.

There are 3 different forms to fill in for the covid extension, plus a photo is needed and copy of passport pages +1900baht.

did you always get the extension from the day your previous 60 days expire or the day you show up?

in chimag mai, you get the extension from the day you apply, not when your previous visa /extension expires.

I have placed two TOPICS on your post. CLICK on them and posts from ChMai will pop up to read.

Suggest you stop by Chiang Mai Thai Immigration and ask for their list of requirements for the COVID extension.

No letter from US Embassy needed...they do not issue them anymore.

Last day to apply is November 26th.

The owner of your apartment should file a TM30 for you with Thai Immigration office. Whether its needed or not in ChMai ...??
