Hello, can anyone tell me the current requirements to apply for a 60-day covid extension (at Pattaya or Bangkok office) and if it's currently granted for American citizens? Sorry if this was asked before, but I wasn't able to find the information. Is a letter from the embassy required?

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a 60-day COVID extension in Thailand, American citizens should prepare specific documents, which may include their passport, copies of the data page, recent visa, and departure card. A TM30 form filed at the local immigration office is also required. While some offices may ask for a letter from the embassy, others may not. It is essential to check the specific requirements at the office where your TM30 is filed, as practices may vary.

What visa are you on?

Possibly the new STV, TR60, or other?

Have you extended already?

in which case, you will most likely need to extend that 30 days before you can apply for a covid extension.

Although that is dependent on the IO that you use. Some apply the rules differently...

You can not pick and choose which office you want to use. you can only use the office where your TM30 is filed.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters [Get a screenshot of the US Embassy website saying they don't issue the letters].

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

one other question, is the TM30 where I’m currently staying or for the upcoming months? Because where I’m staying is temporary and I haven’t yet booked my next place

The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is designed for people who can't return home, and is an extension the immigration officer can reject. I recommend applying for it a week before your current "admitted to" stamp expires.

>one other question, is the TM30 where I’m currently staying or for the upcoming months?

The TM30 is filed when you start staying at a location. You would submit the TM30 where you're staying at when you apply for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19

"According to verbal communication from the Royal Thai Government’s Immigration Bureau, non-Thai nationals can visit any Thai Immigration office to request a 60-day extension of stay. Thai Immigration will not require a letter from the Embassy as part of the extension request, so the U.S. Embassy and Consulate General Chiang Mai will no longer provide letters of support for Thai visa extensions. Do you have a BOI visa? I ask because only people with visas issued from the BOI can use that immigration office.
