Hi all - I’m unable to travel back to the US at the moment because of COVID. The US Embassy just started issuing letters again for an extension so I’m planning to take this to immigration to request a 30 day extension past the Sept. 26 amnesty date. I’m wondering if anyone else here has done the same and if so, do you know what documents are necessary to present to immigration? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on obtaining a 30-day visa extension in Thailand due to an inability to travel back to the US because of COVID-19. While the US Embassy has begun issuing letters for extensions, experiences shared indicate that few have successfully used these letters to obtain visa extensions. Commenters suggest a list of documents likely needed for the extension request, including a passport, copies of key pages, passport photos, the embassy letter, and a fee of 1900 THB.

Are you still employed in Bangkok? If so get an extension based on employment.

which email did you use to request a permission letter from the US embassy?

Hmm, dunno where my info went but you go here to the ACS website, then you click the Covid-19 information, Then you click the Entry and Exit Requirements and it's the link I highlighted

amazing as always. Thank you

there are no successful reports of people using the letter provided by the ACS division of the US consulate to get a 30 day "unable to travel due to covid-19 after Sept 26th" extension.

That's because the immigration office (despite the amnesty decree stating extensions start on the 27th) are starting them the date you apply

Ok, thanks for clarifying

So if there are no successful reports of people using the letter then how do they know that extensions are being issued from the day that you apply?
Tod *********
@Amy ****************
This is what people are getting at immigrations in bangkok IF they use the embassy letter stating they can't travel due to covid and apply NOW..

@Tod ********
do you know if the letter from embassies only work for Tourist Visas or could also apply to a non-o?

@Wade ***
Good Question. You can extend the Non O...Cannot extend the Tourist visa without the Embassy Letter.

Thai Immigration may deny your extension based on Non O...

Suggest you ask...now...not be surprised if you wait

as there are timelines to be observed if extending a Non O

no idea sorry, that's a question you need to ask your immigration office :(

@A**
, I meant there are no successful reports of people using the letter to get a 30 day extension dated from the 27th of Sept :(

For the documents they will probably request:

1. Your passport

2. A copy of your data page (picture page)

3. A copy of your departure card (should be staple to your passport)

4. 2 passport photos

5. The embassy letter

6. 1900 THB

They may tell you to bring other documents too.
Benjamin ******
1. You can travel to the USA

2. The US embassy is issuing those letters, however I have not heard of any one getting an extension of stay based on the embassy letter.

@Gene*****
, please do share a photo of the stamp they gave you today 🙂 I’ll be in the same boat!
Genevieve ***********
Yes I will have to return
Tod *********
@Genevieve **********
ahh so what you got was an "under consideration" stamp like this correct?
Genevieve ***********
@Tod ********
I don't believe so, could be?. The woman did not give me any problems - I went with my coworker so she was able to explain everything in Thai, and stated I would come back in September for another stamp
Tod *********
what does the stamp IN your passport actually say right under the location of the immigration office
@Gene*****
?

is it like this one?
Tod *********
@Genevieve **********
and did you pay 1900baht OR did you get a stamp in your passport for free?
Genevieve ***********
@Tod ********
You are correct - I am technically considered 'under consideration' but paid the 1900 THB extension fee.
Genevieve ***********
I just got one today! It was super easy. When you get to Chaeng Watthana you can request a TM7 form. You will need a copy of your passport (information page and pages with your entry stamp/visas) as well as a photo. All of this can be obtained there if you don't have access to a printer/photo place beforehand. The fee is also 1900 THB - I am stamped until Sep 28 and will return then to get my stamp until Oct 26.

@Genevieve **********
so u have to go back to immigration? Sounds like you got stamped for 2 days
Benjamin ******
@Genevieve **********
can I see a pic of this stamp?
Tod *********
@Genevieve **********
and did they date your extension from the 27th of Sept?
