I am a little confused. If I want to get a covid extension do I need to contact the US embassy for a letter or is that not required at this point. I am currently on a TR visa. Also I noticed when I got my 30 day extension (normal tr extension) my passport is now stamped "application of stay is permitted up to 15, Sept 2021 applicant must leave the kingdom within the date specified herein, offenders will be prosecuted.

Does this mean I cannot get any further extensions?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on whether they need to obtain a letter from the US embassy for a COVID extension while holding a TR visa. They also express concern regarding the implications of the stamp on their passport related to their extension application. The commenters reassure the user that the stamp's wording is standard and that they do not need the embassy's letter as immigration offices are aware of the current situation. They advise applying for a 60-day COVID extension shortly before the current stamp expires.

Any reason I should wait until that close to the expiration date?

yes, because you are changing your reason for extending your visa from Tourism to Unable to Travel because of COVID. The 60 days will start from when you apply. It will not be added to your existing stamp.

all extensions have that wording on the stamp; you're fine.

AND

the immigration offices knows good and well that the US embassy is not issuing letters asking for a covid extension

SO

When your current stamp is almost up (I'd say on the 13th of Sept) GO to the immigration office where you live and apply for a 60 day covid extension for 1900baht
