Do Americans need to visit the US Embassy to obtain a letter for Covid visa extension in Thailand?

Any Americans here who applied for Covid visa extension and supplied a letter from the US Embassy? If so, did you have to visit the embassy to get the letter, or were you able to obtain it online?

I live south of Hua Hin and hoping I don't have to make a run to Bangkok for a piece of paper.

Thanks in advance..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around whether Americans in Thailand need to visit the US Embassy to obtain a letter for a Covid visa extension or if it can be done online. Some commenters mention that there is a notice available online indicating the embassy does not provide such letters. Further inquiries are made about any alternative documentation or information provided by the embassy for this specific visa extension.

Still looking for information on whether the States produces some letter you can use for a 60-day Covid extension or a place on the Embassy website where they say they don't. Thanks!

I would go now and simply explain that with the explosion of cases in usa you don't feel safe going.. I have gotten two extensions with NO such letter (I'm american]

not sure what your point is and that isn't "new" ...

its newly issued last month..

And we are hearing reports of denied COVID extensions...

Some granted less than 60 days...some requiring letter from home country Embassy requesting the extension...and some requiring to see airline ticket departing Thailand...

It varies from immigration office.

As you said you have had several COVID extensions already, I did not know if you had seen this.

Try sending them an e-mail at

, asking for a letter saying you can't return.

except that any American can return and thus you won't get a letter saying that lol

exactly… Can’t figure out why they’re asking for something so ridiculous

already done that - but my experience is their reply timing is well past my visa expiry - usually more than one week before I'll hear anything.

You use the notice that's posted online saying they don't issue the letter

In that case, don't tell the immigration office it's no longer there.
