What is the process to apply for a DTV visa in Vietnam, and what documents are required?

Got my DTV visa in Ho Chi Minh Embassy under Workcation category.

I highly recommend this embassy:

- The security guard is friendly despite me being late for the appointment (delayed flight). Once arrived, you have to provide the booking of the appointment and the passport so they register you in their notebook (old school Vietnamese way of doing things)

- Hassle free booking system: can cancel within 24 hours and recommended to book within 14 days

- The attendants are very respectful and helpful. They have 2 attendants and the Vietnamese one on the left is very friendly

- Passport will be returned with 2 working days. Example: I applied on Wednesday morning and I got my results on Friday afternoon.

Documents needed:

- Passport

- Filled application form with passport photo. There is no option for DTV in the form so you can leave it blank

- Bank statement from the last 6 months, with current balance over 500.000 baht

- Freelancer contracts: I created my own contract with my clients’ signatures. I added a detail of remote work condition and my clients’ company registration

- Proof of current location: confirmation of the Airbnb booking

- Additional documents: not required however I have the printed screenshots of my works, proof of stay in Chiang Mai (lease contract) with the identity card of the landlord

- US$340, the money must be in good condition with no tears.

Upon arriving Thailand: No issue with the DTV visa though my immigration officer did not know I have the DTV visa stamp and asked me about my return day. She was curious about the paper work and fee of the visa.

Hope this is helpful.

Does this visa have to be organised from the Thai Embassy (or Thai Consulate) in your home country only, or can it be submitted at any international Thai consulate?

@Pham ****
thanks so much for the information. Did you need to get any of your company documents (client contracts etc) notarized?

no I did not.

Can you apply online on the

portal with the relevant documents and then go and pick up the visa at the Ho Chi Minh Embassy? Or you have to bring all the docs at the appointment day? I know some embassies have the eVisa working for DTV.

I think the evisa system has to be available in that particular country of application to work, and currently it’s not available in Vietnam.

Hi
@Pham ****
, I just want to make sure before I fly because I was rejected in Laos - did you have 500k 2-3 months ago in your bank account? (I had in the investment but it's really a problem)
Selena ***************
Can you please share why your were rejected
Selena ***************
Oh ok, thank you so much.
Ziv *****
@Selena **************
I didn't have 500k in the savings account for 3 months.

@Ziv ****
I have 500k consistently in the last 6 months in my bank account.

Just an FYI for anyone wanting to go to HCMC. They have no appointments until Sept 10 as of today. You will need to book well in advance for this embassy. I got one on the 16th and there are plenty during that week. It seems there is only 1 appointment available for each 10 minute slot. Don't wait until the last minute, you might be disappointed.
Clare ******************
Do we know if black and white photocopies are ok? I’m in HMC and have only managed to print in black and white.

Thank you.

@Pham ****
Hi, if you don't mind, can I ask how many days did you have the 500K in your bank account for? or do you need to have 500K consistently for 6 months? We're planning to apply from HCM late September.
Clare ******************
@Panjai ***********
EDIT: all about HMC: They didn’t seem interested in your income or how long you have

a million bhat.

Some embassy’s want proof of 6 months - but seems to be account existing - rather than having the money.

If I hadn’t had the money myself. Would have asked a friend or family to borrow it.

I would get a wriggle on. It’s not going to stay this good for long is my guess. Hope it does. But be careful and hurry up! .

Good luck all! I’m so happy to be back and actually accepted by Thailand! It’s another level! X

@Clare *****************
thank you so much for your respond. This is very helpful.

Some people who got their visa in Hanoi also mentioned that their 500k THB was in the bank for about a week or so.

Do you mind if I ask if you use a legit bank or if you know if online bank like Revolut Wise will be ok?
Clare ******************
@Panjai ***********
I gave a UK ISA savings account as my account that had history….

Because it was under the amount required at last statement - I also included my Wise to show I had the money.

Hope that helps.
Panjai ************
@Clare *****************
Thank you, that helps a lot. I am planning to show Revolut as the bank with 500K and a Thai bank as the one with daily transactions movements history. Hopefully this will help.

I wasn't sure if using Thai bank is ok. But they will see on the passport stamps that we have been living in Thailand over a year with ED visa anyways 😅

@Panjai ***********
- think you have more than covered it. Good luck!

I have them consistently over the past 6 months and I heard some embassies require it to be in for 2-3 months. I did not hear anything like that from my application and other applications from this embassy (but it does not mean they don’t require it)

Did the 6 months bank statements show the full ฿500,000 for the entire 6 months, or are they just interested in the current balance?
David ****************
@Biff ******
in Europe its current balance.. in SE asia its 3-6 month back.
Pham *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
As far as I know it’s not a requirement for 500,000 baht for entire 6 months however there will be suspicion if a huge amount being transferred to the account prior to the appointment day. I think they do want to verify it’s YOUR money.
Andi ***********
@Biff ******
current balance they focus on.
Biff *******
@Andi **********
thanks, but did they ask for 6 months with the 500k? If they only want the current balance to be 500k+ what were the previous months meant to show?
Andi ***********
@Biff ******
You don't need 500k for 6mths just the current balance. There is not one single answer to why they want to see 6mths. It can show the account was not just opened for the DTV, show salary payments, confirm client payments. Other embassies like London just one month is ok. Some embassies are just being extra strict.
Biff *******
@Andi **********
thanks. That’s very helpful.

I suppose they’re all just working out the details as to what evidence they need.
David ********
@Biff ******
good question, I am also interested in feedback on this
Ramona ************
It does not have to be applied from your country of residence in the end? You just need to do it from outside Thailand?

Congrats!

Do you know if you will have any additional requirements as a Vietnamese citizen when leaving Vietnam? Proof of return ticket, funds etc? (That has nothing to do with the DTV).
Pham *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Pär ***********
those have nothing to do with DTV. So far, it’s just all the documents listed

I don’t have to provide those documents you me mentioned when leaving Vietnam. The airline asked me about my return flight and I told them I got the visa so it’s not needed. The immigration asked me about my return day and I told them I got the DTV Visa.
Iñigo ************
Do you have a vietnamese passport?
Pham *****

@Iñigo ***********
yes I do and it’s irrelevant. You just have to apply out of Thailand, no matter it’s your own country or not
James ********
@Pham ****
correct ✅
Tim ***********
@Iñigo ***********
Thats sort of irrelevant because your passport doesn't matter as long as you fit the requirements for the visa.

I was rejected in Penang because I showed a broker account as proof of funds. What kind of bank did you show? I am wondering if a neobank as revolut or wise are acceptable for this visa 🤔 .Thanks for the update.
Raph *******
@Rob ********
same I showed them my broker account (IBKR) and they asked me to show them a real bank account such as saving account etc. In Paris

@Rob ********
I used my local Vietnamese bank, with the saving account and I think any bank would work. Sorry for the rejection, you might want to try again with a normal bank or in other embassies
Rob *********
@Pham ****
I am married in Thailand so I have no problem at all, I just reported my experience to try to warn and help others. 🙏
Andi ***********
@Rob ********
Wise has been accepted for DTA approval by some embassies, some postings on FB detailed they used Wise. Broker accounts seem to be unacceptable, general bank account is what is needed even though wise is officially not a bank.
Rob *********
@Andi **********
Yes you right. I used my broker account to prof my funds for the 90 days visa non O and it was ok, but is not ok for the DTV visa 🤣, I still confuse...
Andi ***********
@Rob ********
Some have posted shifting funds from broker/investment accounts to a bank account in order to get the DTV. I will do the same. Seems DTV focus is on the immediate access to the funds although broker/investment accounts can give same day access.
Rob *********
@Andi **********
Ridiculous... But true
Ali ********
@Rob ********
any bank.. and any bank statement is clear enough. Wise etc not classified as bank .. you didn’t have a chance to ask while you there ?
Andi ***********
Congrats..you just handed over the docs, no questions asked ?
Pham *****

@Andi **********
they asked a question due to a confusion about my bank statement because it’s shown in MM-DD-YYYY format. Other than that, no question asked.
