Hello,

I need guidance regarding the DTV visa.

I am applying through HCMC thai consulate and I have no idea where to find their application form.

Is it something available online or is it just something I need to take while I'm there?

Also, do I have to translate every documents in english? (bank notes, employment contract).

Finally, do I need to provide both employment contract AND pay slips?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on applying for a DTV visa at the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), specifically regarding the availability of the application form, the necessity for document translation, and the required documents such as the employment contract and pay slips. Comments suggest checking the Thai embassy visa website for the application form, confirming that documents must be translated to English, and emphasizing the requirement to provide proof of remote work through the employment contract and potentially pay slips.

The generic visa application form should be on each embassy/consulate website to download. I just downloaded this one from Jakarta to fill for DTV. I saw Kuala Lumpur has it's own so HCMC probably does too...

was just at HCMC and they just asked us to add a DTV checkbox to the options given on the form for visa typr

Yes. Every embassy has its own form.

Yes, obviously, your documents need to be formally translated. Do you expect that the Thai consulate staff in Vietnam to know French? If you were in France and applying through the Thai embassy there, French language documents probably would work. The form is probably on their webpage. It is probably the generic visa application form, which has probably not been updated to include a DTV box to select (I didn’t print out in advance and complete in Cambodia because I thought they would have a new form at the consulate. They didn’t, and then I had to find a random wall to use as a backstop to fill out the form). You absolutely need proof that you are a remote worker, so employment contract or employment certification that states this is important. Some embassies also want pay slips and/or tax returns in addition. You also need evidence of 500 k in the bank

Yeah I have all of that, it's a bit of a pain to translate the pdf, they get broken with every tool I tried. But maybe I could use the evisa website to do that procedure even while out of the country since I'm a french resident but I'm not really sure, that would save me a lot of hassle.

no, you can’t use the evisa site. You have to be physically present in the country through which you are applying through and Vietnam doesn’t use the evisa site. If you want to apply though the site via the Thai consulate in France, you need to be in France. Also, I think you need formal translation. Not online translation of your documents.

Out of curiosity, why should I be physically present in my country? How can they verify this?

but if you are in Vietnam, why attempt to lie to a government if you want to live there? Just pay for formal translation. It is worth it for a 5 year visa
John *******
@Matthias ***********
- well, the “why” is because that is the Thai government policy, and if they think you lie to them, they can deny/ban, etc. The verify part, is not easy. Some applicants have been asked to share every page in their passport (meaning the embassy has assumed that the applicant lied and wants to see evidence of where they are). Others have been successful in getting through, lying on the application, and Thai government not red flagging.

formal translation would be 10-15 usd

Do you recommend a certain company to do this? I've looked it up and it's like 40euro per page on what I could get
John *******
@Matthias ***********
- I don’t know. I applied via Phnom Penh and since I am American, my documents were already in English. 40 Euro per page seems like a lot.

yeah, paying that much money for 6 translated pay slips is kind of ludicrous 🙁

I am not currently in my country so I cannot use evisa website or maybe I am missing something?

I am a resident of France but I am on a trip in Asia right now, is it okay if I use evisa ? Because they explicitely say I need to be located in my country while doing so.

@Matthias ***********
...you may want to start the application on the website....they will let you know the correct procedure. French citizens have Visa exempt entry ..
Helen ********
@Vijay ****
this is incorrect and bad advice. When you start the e-visa it asks your location and advises if you can use the system or not. Vietnam is not on the e-visa system as of yet. As
@Matthias ***********
states, he is not in his home country so is not able to use the e-visa site for that location... unless he falsifies information and lies about his location. If that is discovered his visa would be denied and he would be out the visa fee. It would not help the OP at all since the actual paper application is different then the online one.

French citizens can enter Thailand without a visa for a maximum stay of 30 days if they meet the following conditions:

1. Hold a valid French passport with at least 6 months' validity

2. Enter Thailand through an international airport or designated land border crossing

3. Have proof of onward travel (flight ticket, bus ticket, etc.)

4. Have proof of sufficient funds (THB 10,000 or equivalent, approximately EUR 280)

5. Have a valid address in Thailand (hotel booking, etc.)

Note: This visa exemption is for tourism purposes only. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days or for other purposes (work, study, etc.), you must apply for a relevant visa at the Thai Embassy or Consulate before your trip.

Also, French citizens can apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (valid for 60 days) or a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (valid for 6 months) if they wish to stay longer or travel to Thailand multiple times.

Please verify the information with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before your trip to ensure you have the most up-to-date requirements.

Your information is mostly correct except for the number of days on the visa exempt entry. Citizens of France can enter visa exempt for 60 days, not 30. This initial 60 day stay can be extended once at immigration for a maximum of 30 days, so 90 days is possible. That being said, the OP was asking specifically about a DTV. I am sure your info, though, will benefit those looking for data on shorter stays.

@Vijay ****
he is applying for a 5 year DTV visa.
