Good Afternoon all,

I am to go to Kuala Lumpur to apply for my son's Ed visa and my guardian visa. I have a print out of direction and fees for this embassy but I want to make sure if there's anything else I should know. For the guardian visa am I suppose to have a certain amount of money in my Thai bank account? Does anyone have any insight? TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice for applying for an Education visa for their son and a guardian visa at the Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur. They mention having directions and fees but want to ensure they're fully prepared. Key points discussed include that for the guardian visa, financial proof of 400,000 baht (or 500,000 baht for an extension) might be required. Some commenters caution about applying in Kuala Lumpur due to recent issues with documentation and suggest alternatives like Laos or Penang for a better experience.

The school picked it. I'm a little nervous now.

Remember IF you are applying for a 'guardian visa' based on raising a foreign child that's in school here in thailand, many consulates will also require you to show the financial requirements for an extension of stay inside the country 500K baht banked in an account.

I wouldn't have picked KL as it is not the most user friendly thai consulate in S/E Asia, but good luck. (y)

Seriously consider an alternative like Laos. KL has started requiring criminal background checks for all ED visas, despite it not being required per the website or their own documentation. Many people have been denied ED visas at the KL consulate recently, including me.

The school had it set up for us in Malaysia KL so that's what we're going to that one. I'm hoping my 9y/o won't need a background check. 😣 I see it on the list if documents but he doesn't have one.

Not sure what website you visit, but it is clearly stated on the checklis of the Thai Embassy website in KL: 7. Certified criminal record in the applicant’s country of origin or in Thailand

Call them and check if they can give Ed visa.
