I would be grateful for advice on the correct sequence I should follow to move from an education visa to a Guardian visa (I have a foreign child studying in Thailand).

I have an ED visa valid until 18 June. UK passport.

I will be travelling in April to the UK, and have a re-entry permit. I have all the required finances in place in a Thai bank account to qualify for the guardian visa now. My questions:

* can I apply for the guardian visa on return to Thailand, or could I start the process of applying for it before leaving on 5/4?

* If I need to cancel my ED visa before applying for a guardian visa, when should I do this?

* Would it be better (and is it possible) to apply for the guardian visa in the UK, I would have enough time to do this on my trip.

I am anxious not to jeopardise my return to Thailand in April, I will be travelling with my daughter.

In case relevant, I have held an education visa since August, and have no previous history of Covid related extensions or overstay.

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on transitioning from an education visa to a guardian visa for their child studying in Thailand. They hold a valid education visa until June, plan to travel to the UK in April, and have the necessary finances for the guardian visa already set up. Key questions include the timing for applying for the guardian visa, the need to cancel their current visa, and the possibility of applying from the UK.

In THEORY you aren't getting ANY VISA ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

You are now currently on an Extension of Stay based on education, (not an ED VISA) and all you'd be doing would be cancelling the extension of stay with documentation from your school saying on xxx date you stop and then immediately applying for a NEW extension of stay based on raising a foreign child enrolled in a school here on an ED visa by showing the documentation and the proof of the 500K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 30 days before you apply for the extension.

You're just doing a "reason change" from one extension to another extension, not anything to do with a visa..

I don't see any reason why it can't be done

BUT

I'd sure talk to your school as well as to the immigration office where that extension is issued so they can confirm they'll let you just "change a reason".

Otherwise you would have to cancel that ED extension, leave the country, either buy a 90 day Non-O visa based on raising a foreign child at a thai consulate before you come back

OR

come back on a free entry stamp and get the 90 day Non-O visa issued inside the country for 2000baht and then do the year extension for 1900baht after that

does not state the age of her daughter. Is she still a minor? Then yes its as you explained.

@Vanzanten ******
as long as the child is under 20 she can get an extension based on taking care of a foreign child enrolled in a school here
