What are the visa options for a guardian of a child on an ED visa in Thailand?

Hey!

Question regarding longstay and ed-visa for child and what best to do for me as guardian...

My kid is approved on an International School in Thailand by the coming school year for a whole year, so I can apply for the ED-Visa for it, papers sorted. I will be there as well as a guardian. And now as I am trying to understand the options I am getting more and more confused by different information.

We both could enter on visa exemption for 45 days as per actual regulation.

But if I apply for an ED-Visa for my kid before entering Thailand, I can apply for a Non-O-Visa for myself. But I have no idea what I will have to proof then as the information of the Thai Embassy here are not really clear and totally confusing me. Will I have to proof the health insurance for the whole stay? Or just for the ASQ? And if yes, is this only possible with an Thai-accredited insurance? Will I have to give the adress where we will stay at already beforehand for the whole time? If I go for the Non-O, will I still have to proof those 400k in a Thai bank like for the Non-O retirement? I am not over 50 anyway. And also have to proof a monthly income? I am at total loss here.

Or would it be easier to just enter on visa exemption while my kid has an ED-visa and then while in country apply for an ED-visa for myself? I would like to study Thai anyway while living there.

TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the complexities of visa options for a guardian accompanying a child who will attend an international school in Thailand with an ED visa. The parent is trying to understand the requirement for entering Thailand, particularly whether to apply for a Non-O visa or use visa exemption. Key concerns include health insurance requirements, proof of funds, and documentation needed for visa applications.

You need to start looking at the website of the thai consulate you're going to use because a LOT of the questions you're asking are on there as far as what you need to ENTER the country.

There is no monthly income proof required for a Non-O visa or extension based on raising a foreign child here.

To get the visa in your country you can show proof of funds in your country (that will get you stamped in for 90 days)

AND

Once you get here you need to bank 500K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 30 days before you can apply for an extension based on raising a foreign child here.

When you apply at the thai consulate in your country neither you NOR your child will get one year visas :/ You will both most likely get a single entry 90 day Non-Immigrant visa (you a Non-O and your child a Non-ED).

When you come in you will both get stamped in for 90 days, you will get documentation from the school and apply for a year extension of stay for your child and you will transfer 500K baht (NOT 400K baht that is for a half thai child) into a thai bank account in your name only for 30 days before you apply for your year extension based on taking care of a foreign child here on an ED visa

You will need to have the mandatory 100K USD covid insurance for BOTH of you for the amount of time you will be stamped in for (90 days from the date you enter the country)
