How can my family apply for the Education Visa in Thailand, and do we need to wait for its approval to get Dependent Visas?

Good morning.

My wife and I are living in Bangkok with our kids. We have decided we wish to stay for as long as we can. Our kids go to school here. We want to apply for the Education visa now that they are above 3. The school has informed us they do all the paperwork and we just need to make an appointment to submit the application. Does anyone know how to do this? On the Thai visa website they have drop down boxes for all the visas however we can’t seem to find Education visa.

Secondly my wife and I will go on a Dependent visa. Do we have to wait for the Education visa to be approved?

We don’t really see any other options available other than visa runs which isn’t practical or cost effective with two kids aged 3.

Thanks heaps

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on applying for Education Visas for their children, noting their school can handle paperwork. They also inquire if they need to wait for approval of the Education Visa before applying for Dependent Visas for themselves. Responses suggest it’s possible to secure Education Visas for the children, but the parents must apply for Guardian Visas, which require a hefty bank deposit. General advice includes using the forum's search tool to find related posts and ensuring the conversation remains focused on the relevant visas.

It's easy to get ed visa. Both of you can also apply it. Whether you go to university or not, it depends on you. At least, you will get one year visa. Then you can continue doing something in Thailand and change your visa. So you don't need to spend a lot of money for that.

@Billy *****
easy now, they're not asking about getting ED visas for themselves.. They are asking about getting ED visas for the children..

about the required bank deposit in a Thai bank.

For how long do I have to keep the required 500,000 baht in the bank after getting the guardian visa?

90 days before (when you apply) and 90 days after (prior to renewal). I am not an expert like the admins of the group, but I am in that situation so I know a little bit 🤓

Yes , it may be possible to get the Ed Visa for each child to attend School in Thailand.

However... there is NO trailing visa for the parents of students in Thailand schools.

Your option is for each of Mother and Father to visit your local Thai Immigration office and ask them for their list of requirements for the GUARDIAN VISA.

It will require EACH of you to deposit 500,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only to obtain One Guardian Visa.... 2 children x 2 parents = bank deposit in a Thai bank 500,000 Thai baht EACH = 1 MILLION Thai baht on deposit.

@James *******
thanks. I’m assuming the bank stuff is done after the visas are approved? I’ve tried to open accounts and they all say no. Should this be correct? Thanks

What is the ending date of your extension stamp now in your passport?

sorry I’ll have to check PP when I’m with it. We came on a TM 60 I think it’s called and then extended. Visa runs out 30 Aug. thanks

@Tarlz ***
that's fine. You entered Thailand with a SETV single entry tourist visa, stamped in for 60 days. And have extended for 30 days ending August 30th

It's important to start ASAP with your efforts to get the Ed Visa and Guardian Visa process going.

There's Thai holidays where Thai Immigration and schools Closed

thanks so much. Very helpful. The school is sorting all the paperwork now and will have it ready for when we want to submit. I’m just having trouble finding out how to make an appointment like we did for the extension as online nowhere for Education visa.

you will go to Section C-1 <- that is the section that issues visas

You want the appt for VISA ISSUING to apply for the 90 day Non-ED visa for your child

They need a MINIMUM of 15 days left on their stamp to apply
James ********
@Tarlz ***
yes. BUT you will use that same Thai Immigration office.
@Tod ********
may reply with added info re CW Chaengewattana Immigration office for your Visas needed... Ed Visas for your 2 children and the Guardian Visas for you and your wife.

What visa extension are you on?
James ********
@Tarlz ***
that's why you need to visit the Thai Immigration office and schools to get a plan for which is needed First.

With 80+Thai Immigration offices in Thailand, it's always BEST to ask your local Thai Immigration office.

The opening of the bank accounts requires patience and persistent efforts.

Ask your school if they could refer you to a local bank...or Ask a local bank manager of their requirements.
