What is the best way for an American expat to enter Thailand for the birth of their child and manage visa issues?

Having a thai baby soon, no stamps in 6 months, lots of old covid stamps, was told not to come back without a tourist visa. American bouncing around SE Asia.

How should I plan on entering for the birth and moving forward? I wouldn't be coming from the US, usually Vietnam, Korea or Malaysia.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat planning to have a child in Thailand needs to secure a tourist visa prior to arrival. This visa provides an initial stay of 60 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. It's crucial to ensure that his name is included on the birth certificate, which requires registration at the local amphur in Thailand. If not married at the time of birth, he may need to go through the family court to establish parental rights, which can be a lengthy and costly process. Advice from the community suggests consulting the Thai embassy for visa requirements before proceeding.

Might be able to get a 90 day non-O outside of Thailand for that. But inside of Thailand he will have no rights unless he's married at the time the baby is born and his name is on the birth certificate. If not married then he'll have to go through family court to get parental rights and takes 6+ months and a lot of money.

How can you say you are going to have a Thai baby soon when I have been waiting for 10 years to have a beautiful 20 year old baby. It's not easy.

Come in on a tourist visa. Make sure your name goes on the birth certificate, go to the local amphur with your girlfriend after that and get registered as the father then a visa based on being the father of a Thai child

he has to go through court, not the amphur.

only works if they're married when the baby is born. Otherwise have to go through court first.

Pay a visa company and they’ll handle it all for you.

That's not really the issue. The issue is that you would have to be in Thailand already to engage an agent. So an agent can't do anything to help with the issue.

I'm guessing time to approach an agent and get a long term stay visa. Good luck.

Get married.

Come in on a tourist visa 60 days plus extension . Giving you 90

So do what they told you and get a tourist visa. Check the website of the Thai embassy where you are and find the requirements then go and apply.

how would that work if it isn't for tourism or if I'm staying at a residence not a hotel?

As a tourist you can’t work.

No matter where you stay, the owner of the house, has to do a TM30 registration within 24 hours after arrival.
