Hello everyone. Appreciate any help I can get.

I am on my way out of Thailand and back to Vancouver. I am in need of applying for a new non-O spousal visa to come back to Thailand. It seems that there are only single-entry visas granted by the Vancouver Thai Consulate.

Can anyone please let me know what would be the next steps to get a multi-entry visa?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transitioning from a single-entry Non-O visa to a multi-entry Non-O visa for their return to Thailand. The community responses clarify that currently, only single-entry Non-O visas are obtainable through the Vancouver Thai Consulate. They suggest entering Thailand on a single-entry visa and then applying for a year-long extension based on marriage. For multiple entries, the focus shifts to obtaining a re-entry permit after securing an extension of stay. Community members also mention that historically, multiple-entry options existed, but accessibility has been impacted by COVID-19.

You come in on a single entry Non-O visa based on marriage, get stamped in for 90 days. Contact your embassy here, get the "affidavit of income from abroad" notary letter (that the canadian embassy still issues here) showing you get at least 40K baht a month and then you go apply for a year extension based on marriage to a thai at your immigration office where you live.

OR

you bank 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the year extension. Those are the two ways you can show proof of funds to get a year extension.

very detailed. thank you!

There is no multi entry visa except the Elite Visa. A multi entry cost 4,000 THB and is stamped in your passport after you have a Visa.

@David ********
you’re thinking of a re-entry permit for an existing entry stamp, which is either 1,000 baht for a single or 3,800 for a multiple entry. If you apply at an airport they charge an additional 200 baht service charge if you don’t have the right photocopies and photos.

@Stuart ********
As previously stated there is no Visa issued as a multiple entry. You have to pay extra to have that multi entry stamped in your passport

you are almost 100% totally INCORRECT there
@David ********
, MOST all the Non-Immigrant Type visas sold at the thai consulates around the world are sold as either single entry OR multiple entry <-(although with this covid shit show going on a multi-entry visa [where you bounce out and back to get a new entry stamp] is not all that valuable.

You are confusing a VISA <- a sticker you buy from a thai consulate before you come here with an EXTENSION OF STAY <-a stamp you get from the immigration office once you're here. IF you get a yearly extension of stay and you want to exit/re-enter you BUY a re-entry permit (single re-entry 1000baht, multiple re-entry 3800baht)

there are literally 10,000 or more people in the country that were on a multiple entry Non O visas based on marriage. It was valid for a year and if bought in somewhere like Laos meant no financial requirements, but you had to leave Thailand every 90 days. Pre Covid not a problem. Border bounce same day and you’re back in for another 90 days. Rinse and repeat. Covid killed that option so most are now on a Covid extension for as long as they keep selling those.

@David ********
sorry but you’re wrong. Take for example one that they still are selling - a non OA visa. It’s valid for a year and each time you enter Thailand you’re stamped in for a year. You can come and go as many times as you you like. Each time you get another year stamp. Prior to Covid many used this visa as a two year visa because as long as you left Thailand just before it expired and came back in you got another year - albeit the second year wasn’t multiple entry unless you bought a re-entry permit.

@David ********
there are a number of multiple entry visas. Most aren’t being sold right now due to Covid but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Non O, non OA, Non B’s and the like.

Once you have your year extension then apply for a re-entry permit before you leave to keep it alive until the date stamped.

Yes as said you can achieve the same functionality as the multi-entry visa by getting a re-entry permit for your extension of stay. 1000 baht for a single entry, 3800 for multiple entries. You can get the re-entry permit at the immigration office anytime or at Bangkok airports just before departure.
Stuart *********
You don’t. You come in on the single entry then provided you meet the requirements you apply for a year long extension. Not sure any embassy is selling multiple entry these days.

Savannakhet,Laos, HCMH and Seoul sell multi entry Non Imm O based on marriage.

@Steve ******
perhaps but can a Canadian get in to those places now and apply? Also question the functionality of a multiple entry Non O where you have to leave Thailand every 90 days, and then spend 15 nights in quarantine on return each time.

@Stuart ********
Yep. They're not much use at the moment but could be useful info for the OP at a later date.

@Stuart ********
Do you happen to know if the year long extension can be applied at the airport on arrival or this can only be done at the Immigration Office? Thanks!

@Thiparat *********
Only done at the immigration office and only done when you have less than 30 (some offices, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Buriram 45) days remaining on your permission to stay.

CORRECTION:

As Steve Greir points out below you can do the extension of stay application from 30-45 days before the day your permission to stay expires up to the day it expires.

ORIGINAL COMMENT (requirements below only hold for the application for a Non-O visa inside Thailand):
@M ****
Do it as early as you can, some offices require you have at least 15 days remaining on permission to stay (others 20 days).

Always do things early. Problems can often be solved with time. Without time things become a problem. ;-)

15 days left is for a Non Imm visa, you can apply for the extention of stay right up untill your current admitted to stay stamp expires.

Canada now only uses Evisa application.

And yes, Evisa only issues single entry Non O visas
