What do I need to prepare for my Non-O Visa extension and re-entry into Thailand?

Hi All. I am a Canadian and with my Thai wife arrived in Bkk from Vancouver on Nov. 4, 2021 on a Single Entry Non-O Visa based on visiting family-we have a house which we share with my wife's two girls. We went to our local Thai Immigration Office in Udon Thani on Dec. 22 and I took with me all the required paperwork and applied for the 1 year extension based on Marriage to a Thai. We were visited at home by an Immigration Officer; all went okay and my Canadian passport was duly stamped under consideration for me to return on March 3, 2022. Of course I will do this. All going well, we return to Canada Aoril 5, 2022 and will then come back to Thailand in Oct/Nov 2022 for a further 6 months. Three questions please:

1. On Msrch 3, besides my Passport is there anything else I need to bring?

2. How long will this Extension be granted for, i.e. what will be the Expiry Date?

3. Will I be able to re-enter Thailand on this same Extension?

Thanks very much for your consideration.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a Canadian expat married to a Thai national, inquires about preparation for renewing a Non-O visa extension in Thailand. They are advised to bring only their passport, but some recommend carrying additional paperwork, particularly proof of sufficient funds if required. The extension is confirmed to be for one year from the date of application, and obtaining a re-entry permit is necessary for maintaining the extension when leaving Thailand. Most commenters suggest getting single-entry permits unless frequent travel in and out is anticipated.

For my Thai Wife extension, on the day you go back you need your passport of course, and they also want a copy of your updated bank book on that same day showing your bt400,000, if you use that method.

After you get your one year extension, and it goes from the date you applied, also get a single entry re-entry permit at bt1000, then you have it, and don't have to concern yourself with it when you leave. There is no point in getting a multi-entry permit unless you plan on leaving and returning 4 times or more in the same year. You can simply keep getting single entry permits at bt1000.

One very important thing, save a copy of all your documents you used, as next year you only need to update your bank letters, and all your pictures. As long as you don't move everything else is the same documents.

Hey Kool Breeze. Thanks. If I can pay 1,000 baht every time no problem. If borders are open, we would only ever leave Thailand once and maybe twice at the most. I will update my bank book on that date and bring it in so if they ask for it I will have it.

Your extention of stay is for 1 year from the day you applied. You'll need to buy a re-entry permit to keep this extention alive if you leave Thailand.

Immigration in Udon or airport?
Michael ********
I have only ever just needed passport, though always have paperwork in car just in case.

Should be one year from when you got your under consideration stamp i believe. Never taken much notice.

You will need to get a re entry stamp when you leave Thailand. Quite easy to get at airport 1000 baht for Single 3800 for multiple

Okay Michael, I'll bring all the papetwork with me. As far as the ecact date of the extension, nothing I can do to onfluence that-just interested. So, I get the re-entry stamp and payment at airport or at Udon Immigration Immigration? I will ask at Udon in any event. So, a Single allows you back into Thailand once and the Multiple allows you to go back and forth between neighbouring countries? Would you know if a Single can be coverted into a Multiple at a later date-additional fee of course?

@Mark ********
yes can be got at local immigration as well, the airport is simple enough though and very quick.

Yes you can get a single and get multiple afterwards. Not sure about validity of multiple re entry whether its tied to one particular extension of stay or not.
