Thanks in advance for any advice.

I’m going to Thailand for 6months and 2 weeks. I have two queries.

1- is it 6 months max that I can stay? Or: change my flight and not stay those final 2weeks

2- should I get a single entry tourist visa, extend it before my first 60 days are up for a further 30 days and then do a visa run to obtain a new 60day visa. Or do I need to get a multiple entry visa? With a multiple entry visa do I still have to get visa extensions and do 2visa runs in 6 months

So confused!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a 6-month stay in Thailand and has questions about visa options and extensions. They are unclear whether they should obtain a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) and extend it, or a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for unlimited entries. Answers suggest that the METV can offer the most flexibility, allowing multiple 60-day stays, while SETV allows for one extension followed by a visa run. The discussion also includes information about necessary bank statements for the METV and experiences with visa processing.

For a METV you will need to provide a bank statement showing a deposited amount of money on it (i don't remember exactly how much is it, it should be around 6000 - 8000 euro). If you can't provide this statement, the easiest option will be to obtain two SETV with an extension each (2+1 × 2, 6 months of permitted stay). You will have absolutely no problem getting two back to back tourist visas. From Chiang Mai you can go to Ventiane, Laos, where i had the smoothest overall experience. Don't mention muay thai training, just state, if asked, that you are on a 6 months holiday.

two options: Single Entry tourist visa give you 60 day's, extend once with 30 days than leave the country, apply for new tourist visa for 60 days, extend 30 days than leave the country and come back with Visa Exempt Entry 30 days or apply for the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa, get 60 days of stay at arrival, you can extend wit 30 days (than leave the country) or leave the country get 60 days again, Just before valid until date leave the country and get 60 days again. That covers your whole period.

ok perfect. It’s making sense now.

Yes, with a Tourist visa you only get 60 days admitted to stay on entry. With a Single entry you have to buy a new on every 90 days, with the multiple entry you can go and come back till the valid until date and that is 6 months after the day your visa is put in your passport.

Thank you, so whether I get SETV or METV I still have to through the same process of getting 30day extensions and border runs on the 90th day?

Get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for unlimited entries during 6 months. You can even get another 60 days at the end of the validity period.

OR if METV requirements are too harsh, get a Single (SETV) for 60 days then extend 30, then get another SETV at neighboring Thai consulate and repeat. Add a quick border bounce at the end for the last 30 days visa exempt.
