TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand on a Retirement visa, it is generally required to re-register your address with immigration within 24 hours. However, experiences vary between individuals. Some report that if their address hasn’t changed, they can simply request a stamp upon return, thereby avoiding the need for a new TM30 form. Notably, different immigration offices may have different practices regarding this requirement. It's advisable to check with your local immigration office for their specific rules to prevent potential fines or issues.

This is the problem not just with immigration law. No one really knows what it means from one day to the next. I am sure each office know what they want but do not expect consistency.

I see it more as a problem of starting to use computers and new computer programs and database facilities. Each person need to be learned how to use it correctly, it starts at one office and slowly everyone knows and it will be introduced all over the country.

I live at home with my family ( Thai wife ) have a non immigrant 0 based on marriage and do not miss going to the CM Promenade Immigration Office when ever I return to the Kingdom as required by the Thai authorities. We can bring the same TM 30 if we haven't changed addresses. No need to fill out a new one if you meet that criteria. They require a new one only when your visa expires. If you are a little later then 24hrs there shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't push it more then a week and I myself go within 48 hrs to be done with it.

I can confirm

story. They just restamp it. Just look nice and give your passport to the woman on 3rd floor. You will have it back within 10 minutes with this stamp. No need to get a number.

There were reports about people in Chiang Mai who had filed a TM.30 once where when they returned to thailand they went in and just had the immigration officer re-stamp the TM.30 receipt showing they notified them.

We can do that until our visa expires if we haven't changed addresses. Informed by Immigration when TM 30's became the vogue as I was filling out a new one at the Promenade office second floor. That's what I now do.

I have never reported to any office when I travel within Thailand and never had any problems

Thanks, Robert.

Does anyone happen to know the policy in ChiangMai?

Thanks, that’s a big relief

I stay in Chiang Mai and was worried about this once as well. I asked the owner of the condo I rent about it and she contacted immigration and was told she only needed to file one time. Now, I cannot say if that is the official CM policy or just the policy as understood by the person she talked to on that particular day. I can say, however, that I have never had any issue with my visa extensions after leaving the country and returning. So, I think that is most likely the official policy in CM.

Official by law The address has to be reported within 24 hours. This means every time you leave your house, sleep at the home of a friend you have to report, come back home report again. Immigration Offices understand that this is a lot of work, some Offices just want you to report once, when travel inside Thailand no need to report when back home, some offices want a new TM30 when you went abroad. Some Offices want if you stayed at hotels in other provinces. It all depends on the office in your area. The best and safest advice: Visit your Immigration Office and ask when they want you to report. It takes a few minutes of your time and you prevent problems if they care but you did not. I did not do it or I never did it, and here it is not needed, does not make any sense. Your Immigration office maybe not care, his Immigration Office do care and than he has to pay the fine, if he followed the advice of others.

I understand only explaining my experience ,i wasn't giving advice. As i have only dealt with one office

I have travelled a fair bit here, stsyed in hotels in various provences, i have never done a TM30 and to date had no issues with immigration, just wondering i was told at nonthaburi i didnt have to a tm 30 if i left and came back to the same address (sensible by them as its a busy office)

Reading the link it says i should,

So my question is, would it be wise of me to do it anyway?

Very clear...I will go, do that and ask for next time, thank you Robert and Bent!

It depends on the Immigration Office in your area, some want a new one on every entry back into Thailand, some don't. Better check with your office.
Bent ******
First time your landlord register within 24 hours from moving in. Next times you do it yourself (normally within the week is ok)
