I just extended my tourist visa exemption with an extra 30 days, I am a French citizen.
After, I would like to get the 60 day "Covid visa". I wonder if someone has already gone thru this process, especially regarding the reason on the affidavit you choose. How much of a tangible proof do you need to bring to the reason you select? For example, do I really have to contact my embassy and prove they were "unable to issue the letter of confirmation and request for a temporary stay"...? 🤔
Is there a reason you guys selected that did not require any specific proof?
Thank you in advance for your help, 🙏
Antoine

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a 60-day COVID visa after extending a tourist visa exemption varies by immigration office in Thailand. Some offices, like those in Phuket and Bangkok, do not require proof from embassies, while others may ask for it. Typically, if proof is required, applicants may need one of the following: a letter from their embassy stating they cannot return, a printout from the embassy website confirming they don’t issue such letters, or a communication from the embassy itself stating the non-issuance. It's advisable to check the embassy's website to find any relevant notifications before contacting them.
Depends on the immigration office; some require it, some don't. Bangkok does NOT request these letters.
IF your immigration requires it, you will need ONE of the following three documents:
1. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR;
2. A print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR;
3. A print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.
(Note the "OR's")
Check your embassy website first to see if they have some type of notice about not issuing the letters. If they don't, then contact the embassy and ask them for more information.
Sorry I don’t know about that particular office. I’m sure others here will have done the extension there and can confirm whether they require it or not. Even if not print out from your embassies website that they don’t issue the letter, or email asking for a denial. I would specify that you’d like the reply in English as you may have a tough time if it’s required to do so and the reply is in French.
